I play with HUD / alerts / prompts disabled, but since the patch I get an on-screen alerts for any side missions I trigger, such as when I talk to random NPC who want a job doing.
These alerts don't stay on the screen indefinitely, but nor am I sure what it is that makes them go away. I don't use tracking, so it's not that which is causing them to show.
Please, Ubi, I've opted to play without any on-screen alerts. I neither need them nor want them.
I'm playing off-line, so haven't touched any update/patch yet, also with no HUD/alerts/prompts - I have those on-screen "alerts" that's there's a "mission nearby", and regardless if I select "track" or not, there will be the title of whatever mission/quest is being tracked. They will disappear once moving off a specific distance from where the mission/quest is to be done.
Don't think the patch has anything to do with what's being displayed.
I only say since the patch because what I describe is slightly different to the 'mission nearby' alerts you speak of - which as you say have been there since the start.Originally Posted by MikeWeeks Go to original post
What I'm talking about is the name of the mission being displayed in white, to the left of the screen - not right in the corner oddly, but about a third way down.
They seem to have stopped for now, but Ubi have certainly overlooked many of these prompts and pop-ups. Another annoying one is the reload prompt when you run out of bombs in the planes. I don't need these bloody prompts. I know when I've run out of bombs because they cease to fall from my undercarriage when I try to drop them. I also know how to reload should the need be.
And then there's the fishing controls which are there all the time I have my rod out. Huumpf!
The other points mentioned are standard "half-***" measures that Ubisoft is known for.
However I also have "the name of the mission being displayed in white, to the left of the screen - not right in the corner oddly, but about a third way down."
And I haven't done anything, yet, regarding letting the game get patched/updated.
I also play without any HUD, highlighted enemies etc. I have everything switched OFFin the options.
The whole FC5 world is absolutely awesome, the scenery, its like the best open world I've played but I also really don't like prompts or anything coming on screen at all. It would be good to have the option to play without any prompts at all.
Then explain how are you able to play like that given the fact that you have no way to know where to go next.... ?Originally Posted by rioseven Go to original post
Simple. You use the map.Originally Posted by Viragoxv535 Go to original post
I can’t speak for others, of course, but I suspect you’ll find that the majority of us who enjoy playing with no HUD and prompts, also enjoy playing at a more leisurely pace. For me, the missions / saving hostages / outpost taking are as much a distraction as they are anything else.
Agreed. I gave up on FC4 after a day because the volley of prompts that were forced on the player killed my immersion stone dead. I really thought they’d nailed it with this one, but they overlooked a few.Originally Posted by rioseven Go to original post
Oh, right. Maybe I just hadn’t noticed them then.Originally Posted by MikeWeeks Go to original post
It's a little ambiguous to say the least that the player can get rid of some on-screen informations that all together may take up like 20% of space and yet force the player to navigate through a map that takes up 100% of the screen. Totally immersion-breaking.Originally Posted by OurJud Go to original post
Well yes, but in the perfect game the map would be hand-held and cars would have GPS systems on the dashboard. But FC5 doesn’t, so I’d rather resort to the map than have HUD and prompts forced on me.Originally Posted by Viragoxv535 Go to original post
As for my original post I think I may have discovered what triggers these mission titles being shown. If you track a mission (which I admit I occasionally use just so they show up as yellow on the map) the mission icon, title and objective will display when you get near your target. If you then untrack this mission you’re left with just the mission title in white.
