I'm trying to be OPEN MINDED...
First of all..I'm not a game developer, coder, etc. but I do consider myself a "decent map maker"... which I believe EVERYONE on this specific forum would agree that they are decent map makers as well.
But I'm also a huge data/analytical thinker.
If you notice (or you probably didn't), Ubisoft created a Forum/Thread specifically for Far Cry Arcade which basically has NO posts... the majority of the regular POSTS are under Far Cry Arcade Editor (this forum) which makes me believe that anyone or everyone who has posted HERE are more of the map maker people.
So let's BELIEVE you ARE NOT a map maker. You have no desire. You just want to play.
Does the Arcade format work for you then?
What would it TAKE for you to select a map to play? Are you really going to browse through tons of maps just to possibly get OUTBID by others? That's almost as discouraging as selecting your own map you created and being outbid, right?
You see, I think for the non map makers/non discovery type players,... the actually LOVE the time limit. They would probably have the whole "map picking" be cut out IMO..
I think this is the MAIN problem Ubisoft has encountered. In a main lobby you probably have 3/12 people who actually created and uploaded a map.
NOW for how I think Ubisoft could actually connect the dots:
Get RID of "MAP PICKERS" and have more weekly FEATURES. When something is FEATURED, its considered a "good map". So people will most likely "pick it"
Right now, there are 5 maps to be picked. What about 3 features, 1 ubisoft, and 1 random.
30 Featured maps in a rotation of 5 is a good number. All 30 maps could go be displayed in 1 hour. Add that for 1 whole week and that's CRAZY!
So the next question is how does my map get featured? Well I think that's where you gotta put the "work" or "play" in.. Someone who just makes a map but rarely plays shouldn't be given a feature just because the map is great. I think the point is to be a community. You can't be completely selfish and ONLY play your maps. If I make you a pizza and you eat it, I'd be rude to not try your recipe right?
Also, once you get featured, I don't think you should be featured more than once a month. Only way your map gets featured more is that it's part of that "random" which mean majority of people rated it HIGHLY.
You still gotta keep the rating system, but I think if Ubisoft acts more of radio station people will be happy. There's always that one show that features the locals you know, and eventually that local gets mixed in more and more.
