    Dear Oleg,

It is definitly not the mistake of the game if one NVIDIA card shows correct graphics while another does not.

But, I would strongly recommend that somebody from Maddox Games passes a very clear message to NVIDIA with regards to the **** they programm in their drivers

    And the moment of truth

I installed the 7800GTX extreme in my PC after taking some screenshots with my 6600GT.
    P4 HT 3,4GHz 1,5Gb RAM Audigy2
    1024x768 2AA 16AF water=3 and a lot of high quality settings etc...
IL2FB video: Corsairs attacking Jaanese destroyer

NVIDIA 6600GT (overclocked) driver ver.: 66.72

NVIDIA 7800GTX (extreme) driver ver.: 78.03
The settings are a bit higher

Quite a few things missing I would rather say....

For me the 6600GT has much better graphics, unfortunately with so low 16FPS it is unplayable.
The 7800GTX has 3 times the FPS power at 59FPS, which is not bad at all! (actually at equal settings as the 6600GT I get 77FPS !!)

So, the 7800GTX is the monster of performance but, these drivers NEED TO BE FIXED VERY QUICKLY

with equal settings (besides water due to shaders) fps should be the only difference you would get.....Yes?

Well, with equal settings (including water=3, all three cards 6600GT, 6800Gt, 67800GTX support shader model 3.0) it will look like that:

    The same picture:

6600GT (overclocked by some 100MHz ! these cards accept painlessly lots of overclocking)
    16FPS

    6800GT (overclocked by some 30MHz)
    24FPS

    7800GTX extreme (runs at 490MHz i.e. 40MHz above standard 7800GTX)
    63FPS

All run on the same computer (Pentium IV HT 3.4GHz, 1Mb cache, 1,5Gb RAM, Audigy 2)

CPU power IS an issue for the 7800GTX:
The Athlon64 seems to be a better workhorse than the Pentium IV. For example, the same 7800GTX extreme (runs at 490MHz i.e. 40MHz above standard 7800GTX) on an Athlon64 4000+++ (=overclocked) PC gives
    77FPS

To come back to your question, there is one major difference:
    ! MISSING TEXTURES !
Look at the missing 09 number in the fuselage.
Look at the missing textures aroung the cockpit frame

There are a lot of missing textures which are due to the "over-optimization" that NVIDIA did to the 7800GTX drivers in OpenGL.
How did we use to call the guys who "over-optimized" their online flying capabilities creating packet loss?

Anyway, this is **** that NVIDIA needs to fix not Oleg! But I would expect Oleg to bang the fist on NVIDIA's table and press them to fix it.

There is something else however I would like to know from Oleg:
Is it true that DirectX 9c supports Shader Model 3.0 ? If this is the case, then why does he not programm in DirectX and drop the OpenGL (which is remainant of the old Voodo cards technology) so that we can avoid many headaches in the future? (see http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26220 )

    Are you depressed?

    It'll get fixed. Calm down.

And if you feel this is nvidias issue, maybe take it up with them instead of having a whine-fest here.

Maybe you are right Baldie, I am overexcited but it annoys me to see the best graphics card in the market today, with the worst drivers in the market.
Besides, that logo on the first page
    http://www.pacific-fighters.com

    means something.

So I am expecting Maddox Games putting pressure to NVIDIA to come quickly with a solution now that it is public knowledge that NVIDIA have been caught "cheating" (ooops I said the bad word) with the drivers for the 7800GTX.

Besides I am not depressed but I learned a couple of things since the whinning about the P-51s
AND I want to be able to play this game also a few years down the line.. (see http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26220 )

PS#1. If there is one thing that depress me is that ATI is again months away from delivering a top class graphics card (just read the first benchmarks of the X1800)

PS #2. In order to be fair and just in case somebody with the same "depression" eeehhhemm "frustration" misses any of the posts in the HW forum, there is a temporary solution to the missing textures:
Switching ForceShaders1x=1 in the conf.ini will solve the problem. Ofcourse, no water=3 after that
It is no match for the 7800GTX (it gives me twice the fps (140fps)) but, this is not the reason I would invest EUR 500,-- into such a graphics card....
