Like everyone else, I was a bit stunned getting my arse handed to me trying to defend the position during Sam's hack. After numerous failures, I was finally able to exfil the area and barely make it back to the safe house. The trailer did in fact make it appear that we would be doing a stealth/assault mission with Fisher, but it was a shock when I got a failure for knocking someone out. After I completed the mission, I thought about it more and I realized that the dev team made the mission extremely difficult because it is first and foremost a CHALLENGE, not a by the book mission that would fit into the game.
They stripped us the ability to do a number of things that we would normally do in order for us to meet Sam, but doing that very thing left a boatload of enemies to fend off in a tight area. I can understand the complaints given the expectation set by the trailer and the way the main game mission set has been already established, but it is nothing more than a challenge and it was done that way for a reason. I was just happy that I beat it without doing arcade mode or lowering my difficulty.
I'm playing solo, no hud, extreme difficulty. And once you actually reach Sam you will find your team mates standing in a field far away from you. If you try to order them to regroup before meeting sam - they get detected and it fails.
The design here is absolutely terrible. Either keep it full stealth no kill or loud. Because once you are inside there with Sam you got to fend of choppers, wave after wave, snipers, just to find out that your AI team mates have been downed at the entrance of the camp.
Biggest let down in this challenge is that the AI is horrible for this kind of tactic.
In the context of a Ghost Recon game..."challenges" are another element that just don't belong. I get where you're coming from, but in the promo material it is clearly marked as a 'Mission' and is even treated in-game as one.
Sure, there are challenges that are attached to the mission...but they shouldn't be prioritized over a fun, authentic Ghost Recon experience.
Ultimately, it's a game...and it NEEDS to be enjoyable. This mission (and by many accounts) was not fun.
Loved it personally. Different things about this game inspire different ideas for me. No sooner had I finished Fallen Ghosts than I was going on about SC. -- Likewise, Archangel is fairly "TC world" up until I met Caviera. Apart from wanting to throw her on the table, I was immediately reminded of Revi from Black Lagoon. Not because Cav was really anything like her, but because the way she spoke and sounded, made me think of a certain character in the comic (& anime) called Roberta "The Bloodhound" of Florencia (Columbia). -- Things that exist in the same world whilst being outside the normal TC narratives. Things I know TC would find add texture and layers. Make you challenge ideas about his work and if course collaborators whom are custodians like Ubisoft.
Inevitably matters will escalate in very serious ways but, there is a lot of room for flavour. Things that superficially seem zany but have serious undertones and consequences. I'm really looking forward to where this game is going to be year 4, warts 'n all. It could end up very one note, but it could also, just as easily be something no one ever saw coming.
I've said it before. The "mission" should have allowed players to play it the way they wanted. So they could kill everyone before meeting up with Sam, set traps for the second part, without failing the mission. And then the actual challenge should have added the extra difficulty of no kills. A perfect example is the R6. The challenge requires using Shotguns only, but you use ay other type of weapon, Including mounted weapons, the challenge fails, but can still complete the mission, and unlock the new gloves.
You are not alone, i would even gladly pay a DLC price to have more skills to invest points into and maybe another 30 levels to progress into =)Originally Posted by Kean_1 Go to original post
