Tips for when your game is crashing to desktop

I thought I should compile a small list of things that I did with my game to get it to run, maybe this will help someone. Most of the tips posted here comes from other forum members or information that I found searching the web.

First of all, my system spec:

Intel Xeon 5650 cpu, oveclocked to ~4 GHz
    24 gig ram
AMD Radeon RX570 gpu (latest drivers, as of now 18.3.4)
    Windows 10 pro, fully updated.

CRASH WHEN STARTING A NEW CAMPAIGN

So my first issue was to get past the intro video when starting a new campaign. The game would crash to black screen (monitor showing "no signal"). Sometimes I got further so I could actually see the start of the helicopter scene, but for the most part the game crashed prior to that. Eventviewer would show event-id 4101 on amdkmdap.

After trying everything, a person finally suggested to unplug my computer from the internet when starting a new game, so that's what I did. I also set uPlay to offline, and this have helped me get past the helicopter intro scene.

You can read more about this issue in this thread:

I have since of course connected internet again and I'm able to play just fine now. I still have the same issue if I want to start yet a new campaign though, so for that it I unplug my internet temporarily (more details in the above mentioned thread).

RANDOM CRASHES TO DESKTOP WHEN PLAYING

My second issue has been random crashes to desktop (with black screen and all, just the same as above). What seems to have been the issue for me in this regard, was that I had enabled the ingame fram rate limiter. After I had turned that setting off, I have not yet encountered another random crash so far (fingers crossed), and have been able to play for hours straight. I also play with vsync off.

    CRASH WHEN CONTINUING CAMPAIGN

My third issue has been that sometimes when I start the game and select "Continue campaign", the game will crash (same as above). This one I'm not really sure of, but what I do now is change Window mode from whatever it was set at to something else, so for example, from Borderless to Windowed, start campaign, then change back to whatever setting I prefer. So far this has been working just fine.

Well that concludes my troubleshooting steps and what I have done to get the game to run. Hopefully something here may help someone with similar issues.

    Hi ubisofttofu,

now the question is - what's causing this in the first place? Especially the first part about not being able to start a new campaign unless unplugged from the internet - what is the game doing during this particular sequence that's causing this? Now THAT would be interesting to know, and something you guys should troubleshoot and fix. I'm far from the only one having this issue.
