Why is it tied to gloves?
The only way to use them is to equip the gloves or the designed outfit so we can't use them with other outfits or icon outfits.
Couldn't the developers implement a small menu that lets you select the preferred melee type? That way they could even import the fallen ghosts melee animations into the vanila too.
Please keep this thread up so it might have a chance to actually happen.

Another idea.
Add the code that triggers the usage of the karambit from the spilnter cell outfit and the gloves, to all the store outfits and the icons.

People shared great alternative ideas in this thread, and who knows, maybe one of them could somehow transport the fallen ghosts knife too into the main game, without the skills of course.
