Let's Talk Arcade (it's got issues)
The main issue I think people can probably agree on is the lobby system. Apart from the design flaw of not allowing people to host their own games with the maps and settings they want, there are some glaring technical flaws as well.
I currently -cannot- reliably play with friends I know because 80% of the time we try to party up we get error messages. We haven't been able to play more than 1 or 2 rounds before an error message pops up and people get kicked to the menu and from there we aren't able to group up again until we've all quit to desktop and reloaded.
I'd like to suggest more of my friends to get this game, but if we can't even party up, how can I do that? Ignoring that, though, I'd very much like to get an assurance from someone involved with Ubisoft that the dev team is looking at fixing the lobby system. They've put -SO- much effort in making a really lovely map editor that it's a shame we can't actually play on the maps with friends and strangers. You just publish and hope beyond hope that the map gets selected by the game as an option and then hope again that the randoms in your multiplayer lobby select it. Then you get at max 10 whole glorious minutes to play on it.
It's so unfortunate that we've had numerous examples of really good lobby systems in the past and this game through it out the window for randomization. Why did they think what gamers wanted was LESS control?
Also, why are Deathmatch and Team DeathMatch the only game modes? We've had more game modes in previous Far Cry titles! Give us some other stuff like Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Virus, Predator, Plant the Bomb, or the myriad of other game types out there in other games. It's clear that Ubisoft wants to extend the life of the titles like the way they're supporting Siege. The editor is SO expansive that the lack of extra game modes and the ability to host lobbies is just glaring and obvious. Back in Predator and Far Cry 2 there would be lobbies that'd just be players screwing around on puzzle maps for hours on end. I'd love to be able to do that again.
Can the community managers tell us if they're at least working on other game modes? There's so much good in this game that I can't help but be frustrated by the problems it has. I originally planned to jump straight into map editing and pvp multiplayer, but I haven't hardly touched it due to the problems I've explained above. I'm just glad the campaign has been pretty fun and the co-op does work for that. Though another annoyance there is that you can't progress the story for yourself when you join someone else. But I can live with that, it's not too much of a hassle.
I'm trying to start a thread to get attention to this without just being hyperbolic and rude.
