Hello everyone.
So after spending some time here, It seems like a lot of people here have missed the whole meaning of the ending. At least how I precieved it. Now I could be wrong but the ending people are thinking happened is less logical based on what happened throughout the game. It's so damn deep and thought provoking that I don't want anyone to miss it. I'll piece it with other key notes from the story to show you what the ending really was.
Throughout the whole entirety of the game, you spend your time trying to kill "bastard peggie joseph" with your gang of rednecks. To the player he was a crazy cult leader. And to many of you who beat it, you still see him as that and have missed the plot twist in the ending. You long to kill him because you haven't seen the truth revealed in the ending.
Jospeh throughout the whole game spoke of an impending doom, a clensing of the sinners, a end to the world as you know it. To the player again this was crazy cult leader talk. But more and more Joseph's prophecies were spoke into fruition. Not because he caused them. But because he predicted them. Because he actually was a prophet. He actually was the father. and he actually was Jesus.
See a lot of people are thinking, Joseph nuked Montana. But that's not the case. 1. It's crazy to think a redneck cult got a hole of launch codes from multiple foreign countries and why would he nuked his own cult? Destory the land he inhabits and live in a bomb shelter for years to come?
The lack of beleving in organized religion or rapture or anything like that as I myself don't most of the time has led you to not look deeper into the fabric of the ending. Because the second coming is so dismissable in real life but this is a video game.
Joseph spoke of the impending doom by the wrath of god, and he was right. Because the whole time he was Jesus. He was an actual prophet. He knew of god's plans. He knew of your plans the whole time. Everything was to lead you to the ending.
This is further proven by how many other things he predicted and how he avoided death in miracluous "jesus like" ways throughout the whole game. Like at the begginning of the game when you walk in with like 3 cops, and the man literally has a army assembled around him on his private abode. He willingly lets you take him in handcuffs reassuring his people "don't worry, god won't let them take me" and sure enough, in spooky fashion the helicopter comes crashing down and he frees himself from his handcuffs with no key within seconds.
Same happens at the end of the game when he's in the back of the car and you crash and he saves your life. He saves your life because after all of your sin, after killing all 3 of syblings and after murdering most of his cult. He still forgives you because Jesus always does based on those who believe in the bible. Jesus is incapable of vengance or lust or lack of forgiveness. Those are mortal sins.
So the whole game you think he's crazy, full of crap and just a "peggie cult leader" but he was Jesus the whole time and was spreading the actual truth, he was culling those who were weak as the bible usually promotes. He knew the word of god the whole time. You were blinded by the sin of pride and could not accept his word or have faith in him because it all seemed illogical. The whole time the game gears you into ignoring his word and taking the stance most people take with cult leaders, that they are crazy and don't know the word of god at all, and trying to avoid his "brainwashing teqniuqes" in attempt to kill him. But you could never kill him, arrest him, beat him. Because he was Jesus the whole time.
Just a little food for thought.![]()
Hope everyone enjoyed the game.
Also with the helicopter crash scene at the begginign he says "I told you, god won't let you take me". He knew the exact moment the nuke would go off not because he had his cult nuke anyone. The nuke most likely came from tensions between North Korea and America or Russia. He only knew it was going to happen because he's the father and the impending doom was something he knew was coming because he was told by god.
He tried to guide you but you as the typical american wouldn't accept him. (Jesus)
Politicians are alluded to quite a few times by the cult too. Tensions between countries playing a main basis of why they thought the impending doom was going to happen.
It's all pretty deep, and mind boggingly epic to me. I enjoyed the ending very much.
I am glad you like surrealism art but most of us think the ending is trash. To me the story should be you character either overcome the indoctrination or failed not 3 nuke strike in rural Montana where no country would consider a valid military target. Also, The radio and TV are control by the cult.
Surrealism artists painted unnerving, illogical scenes with photographic precision, created strange creatures from everyday objects, and developed painting techniques that allowed the unconscious to express itself.

The ending of your statement was some sort of philosophical acid trip. Not sure I follow what you're talking about.
At the end of the day, the people who are complaining because they didn't get the cliche "Look mom, I killed the bad guy" ending are just nitpickers who can't appreciate actual dialogue or can't think outside of putting a bullet in something. and it's sad really. the game is actually beautiful in the sense that even the players have been exposed internally by how they percieve it.
As for Montana not being a military target. Who says that nuke hit Montana. Nuclear Mushroom clouds can be seen for thousands of miles. and the rural areas where most of America has it's guns would certainly be a target. Sure New York and California are bigger more likely targets but many areas would get hit. We aren't professional military intel in Russia ops bunkers. how would you know where they'd nuke?
I just think the idea of having the whole time us the player were simply blinded by rage, systematic progression of the game's flow and the voices of our redneck buddies that we ignored the truth. It's pretty deep how the game makes you place this role in biblical prophecy without even knowing it. But everything was meant to happen in the order it happened. It's all even carved on the door outside the eden gate church. He knew god's true word all along and you denied it, looked at him as the villain but you were the blind.
The ending part is also artistically brilliant imo. How he's singing amazing grace as nukes go off underlies the faith and beauty under the destruction. It's primative human nature exemplified.
1) Dialog requires 2...it is a discussion...since the player was always a silent person, there was no Dialog, simply monloguing by Ubi writers AT the player.
2) Nuke shockwave hits about 25 seconds after the flash....average speed of shockwave is 1000 feet per second, putting it about 25K feet way or 5 miles....everyone should be dead anyway, but maybe mountain protected them some...
3) Please don't call an evil sob like Joseph, God's Prophet or Jesus....I don't believe God condones murder, or Filicide, and I find it hard to believe he would condone one who breaks just about every commandment in the book.
4) Glad you liked the ending, but to me it was garbage....and I am a bit older than 8....
GeorgeFarCry96,
I'd like to address your comments in an orderly fashion.
1. Joseph is a prophet/Jesus/anti-Buddha/whatever.
This is completely irrelevant. Your character is a law enforcement officer in Hope County, Montana with a responsibility to enforce SECULAR law. Based on the things he has seen, he has probable cause to believe that the Seed family and Eden's Gate organization is engaging in or has engaged in:
murder and conspiracy to commit murder,
kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping,
theft and conspiracy to commit kidnapping,
at the state level.
He also has probable cause to believe that the Eden's Gate organization is in violation of the National Firearms Act.
Everything he does stems from a responsibility to enforce the law and protect the citizens.
Personally as a player, if I had been given the opportunity to demand that the cultists lay down their arms and surrender, I would have used it because that's what your job as an LEO demands. It's not about being a hero. It's about doing the job you swore and oath to do.
2. With regards to your comments about nuclear weapons.
Mushroom clouds can not be seen for thousands of miles. Here is a good discussion of the issue.

As for targeting, it doesn't take a military analyst. It does however require an understanding of the strategy behind nuclear weapons.
Most countries with nuclear weapons have a fairly small arsenal with relatively low accuracy delivery systems. That means they are going to fire at cities because they are easy to hit and cause a great deal of damage. The US and the Russians however have lots of missiles with highly accurate delivery systems. Both sides investigated the idea of a pre-emptive nuclear strike to destroy the enemy's nuclear forces. As a result, both sides dispersed their missiles to and targeted places like Montana and Siberia respectively.
All of this means that North Korea is unlikely to launch missiles at Montana.
3. What Joseph Seed really had was the power of the script.
You can tell me that he knew all sorts of things and had super magical powers, but that's because the writers made it that way. My complaint is not that we got a crappy ending. My complaint is that the game is filled with sloppy writing and a crappy ending. In no way did the writing justify the endings. It's not hard to make a logical and compelling argument that the game could and should have proceeded very differently. Here's an easy example. Suppose at the end of the game your character took one of the planes or helicopters and strafed the crap out of the church without landing. Joseph Seed would then die in the wreckage. That's absolutely something you could have done, but we are prohibited from doing it by the game and the writers.
4. We don't like it because we don't get to be the hero.
I really enjoyed Far Cry 2 and that is absolutely a game where you are not the hero. In fact, you aren't even a decent human being. In spite of that I enjoyed the game because the writing justified the end. By the time you get to the end the things you've done are so crappy that the ending makes perfect sense. That's not at all the case in Far Cry 5, and that's what really bugs me about the endings.
This ending was absolute trash. I understand it's a take on revelation. So what. I want a hopeful game that's going to give me reply value to be the hero. People say that these games aren't made for their story and I disagree. You can pull so many messages out of stories but this one throws it all away with this garbage ending.
Joseph being Jesus would mean Jesus is quite literally the biggest hypocrite on the planet. Too bad we couldn't nail the psycho to a cross.
I had to laugh when the Seed family, mostly Joseph and Faith accuses you of doing the very same things they are doing. Faith was all about free choice while drugging people out of their minds. Joseph with his anti-violence rhetoric while having people kidnapped, tortured, murdered, etc. But it's ok, it's for God.
Maybe the player was sent by God to punish Joseph by taking away everything he worked for and loved? That or God is the true villain of the game.
