This is really odd. The other night I downloaded a few missions from Netwings.

Anyway, as I was flying one of them last night my PC spontanteously rebooted. I thought I'd seen the room lights flcker as this happened, so I naturally assumed it was an electricity fluctuation, or something like that.

So I load up everything up again, fly the same mission, and it happens again. This time I thought to check my wife's PC which was on in the other room and it was still operating - so no power issue.

So I tried a third time and, lo and behold, at about the same point in the mission: Reboot.

I guess I'll never know how this mission turns out, but my more immediate question is: Anybody ever heard of an IL2 mission causing a reboot?

Yes, but its usually temperature related.

Maybe that mission causes the cpu to run hotter.

try opening up the case and cleaning the dust out, then placing a fan next to it and see if that helps get thru it without crashing.

I'll give it a try. I must say it wasn't an unusually intense mission, though. It might have been if we'd reached our target

I would like to test the mission on my install. You can email the mission and details to g8tr45@yahoo.com, or provide the details in this thread for d/l from Netwings, along with your current install version. It sounds as if something in the mission is causing system failure. (Reboot is the default action for XP under those conditions. You might also post your error log for possible suspects.)

Anywhere I can download said mission? I`d like to try it myself since I had some reboots in an Okinawa Campaign last week and wanna confirm if they were due to overheating or campaign bug/corruption.

A link would be really appreciated.

Head over to page 23 of the FB missions download section at netwings.org. The download is called: VVS Single Mission Pack and the mission in question is 'Dawn Strike' for the LaGG-3.

Have played the mission several times, without difficulty. However, I haven't made it past the mission objective. (Keep getting killed during the ground attack.) At what point in the mission does your system reboot?

    Hi Steve,

I appreciate the double-check. My rig reboots as I am approaching the final turn to line up with the target area. So I guess it's my rig that doesn't like this mission, as opposed to the other way around.

BTW, I've had a couple of free hours to fly since posting and none of the other missions I've flown - and they at least, if not more intense graphically - have caused a reboot.

This will likely go down as an unsolved mystery.

    Dave.
