Application Data Corruption - Game Unplayable

I’m having issues with application data corruption for Far Cry 5 on my PS4 Pro. I have never had any corruption issues before. I installed the game last night and during the installation, a pause symbol showed up. When pressing “X” on the game, nothing happens. I took the disc out, re-inserted, and it installed as normal. Played the game for an hour or two with no issues. Started playing this morning and after a while, the game error “game application data is corrupted, please remove the disc and delete installation” (or something) popped up. After a Google marathon, I have:

*Deleted installation, save data, patch, etc. and reinstalled (did this several times with several combinations below)
*Deleted about 200GB of application data from other unused games just for good luck
*Cleaned the brand new disc several times. My husband has the game, we even tried with his brand new disc
    *Rebooted PS4 normally
*Rebooted PS4 in Safe Mode/option 5 rebuild database (several times)
*Took my PS4 completely off the internet, installed Far Cry 5 completely (no pause install issue), and then put it back on the internet to download and install patch - that seemed to work perfectly fine but within the opening cutscene of the game the same corruption message popped up
*Contacted a LiveSupport person for Sony and they instructed me to do the above steps then back-up my save games to the cloud via PS Plus and do a full reinitialization (factory reset). This person said if THAT doesn’t work, it’s not the PS4 or the Hard Drive, it’s the game and to contact the developers.
*Did a back-up and reinitialized the PS4, fully installed new software, installed Far Cry 5 and played for 2 hours and the game did the same thing, said the application data needed to be deleted. Thus far my husband has been playing on his PS4 Pro for the same amount of time and nothing has happened for him.

I’ve been reading various other places that this issue is cropping up with other Far Cry 5 users, and some other Ubisoft games, and wanted to see if others were having this same issue and what’s worked/not worked.

Other details that may/may not matter:
*New PS4 Pro, just bought in September 2017, never had any issues
*In Sept 2017, installed a 2TB Hard Drive which has never had any issues
*I have a PSVR and PlayStation Camera
*Using about 100GB of my 2TB HD so there’s plenty of space

    Same here

Mine does this as well. Regular PS4. Downloaded the game from PS Store and about 5-10mins into a game I get booted out with "Please delete the game and download again". Great whats another 6GB. Deleted 3 times and still does this. I've opened a case.

    Hey Emfrannie,

Really sorry to hear about your experience with this. All of the information you provided is extremely useful, there's just one thing we'd like you to check too. Can you download your PSN profile on your husband's PS4 and try to play the game to see if you are able to progress there without the corruption issue?

    Hi!

My account on my husband's PS4 seems to progress fine, but I have only tried for a little bit. As an update/addendum to my earlier post:

I was trying a combination of things in the hopes that something would work. Sunday night I restored the licenses, rebuilt the database, and put dsic back in to reinstall. Everything went fine, and when the game came on and I hit "X" from the main menu, a new screen popped up that said "Install Progress" which was at about 47%. This had never popped up before, so I was hopeful. After about 20 mins of installing, the game started and I was able to play for about 10 hours normally. This morning, however, after only 2 hours, the same thing happened and it says there is data corruption and I have to delete and reinstall.

I will play for a bit on my husband's PS4 and see what happens.

**Update: just tried doing the same thing as above once again, since I was able to play for so long that time (restore/rebuild/reboot). After deleting, installing, updating, loading the game, etc. and hit "Press X to continue", it went to the same "Install Progress" screen. Once that finished, I was excited thinking it'd let me play for a while - within 2 minutes the pop-up came and the disc ejected. I can't seem to figure out what's causing this since it's never the same amount of time!

Thanks for keeping us updated with what is going on. I agree this seems highly unusual especially with how much different the times are before the data corruption message appears.

So we can work out what is causing this, is there any way you can swap PS4s with your husband and you both keep playing the game on your profiles so we can verify if this is profile related or hardware related? If the same thing happens to his profile on your PS4 then it is likely a hardware issue and vice versa if this happens when you play on his PS4 it may be a software issue.

Please keep us updated with what you find!

    Same Issue On My End

The same thing just happened to me. Not sure if this matters but the mission I was playing on was the one where you're getting the plane back for that one dude.
The part when you're flying it around for him, right when you're gonna shoot down enemy planes before they refuel. The game froze right as i was shoot at them and gave me that message.

I've easily put over 5 hours worth of time in this game and this is also the first game that's ever done this. I've had my PS4 for over 3 years.

I restarted the game, but it did the error again during the loading screen before the main menu. I then restarted the whole system and then restarted the game again, and same thing happened again before the main menu.

I just deleted the game and I'm reinstalling it now. I'll check it again when I wake up tomorrow. I'm thinking this might be an issue that can be fixed with a patch since more than one person is having it and it seems like its only a PS4 issue. If anything changes or it continues I'll keep you all posted.

    Thanks

    UPDATE

I was able to play for several hours last night on his PS4 Pro without any corruption message. Again, the last time I played it happened over 10 hours into the game so it could just be a waiting thing, but for now I've gotten no message. He also took out his old REGULAR PS4 and installed the game so we could still co-op (I'm using his Pro, he's using the old PS4) and we've gotten no message on that PS4 either. It seems that it might be a hardware thing with my particular PS4 pro. Later today I will have him load his profile on my PS4 pro and test to see if the corruption message occurs on his account there.

Not sure if it matters but I've played many other Ubisoft games and this has never happened. I'm 30-40 hours into Assassin's Creed Origins on the same PS4 Pro and nothing like this has ever happened with any other game, Ubisoft games included.

To user x3vilivex - not sure if it matters - but when this first happened, I deleted the entire application and the save data, thinking maybe the save was corrupted (it happened first for me right when I was trying to save Jesse from the Mill). I started an entirely new game and accepted different quests and tried things in a different order and the message still happened, so it doesn't appear to be attached to save game data or your progression/what you've done in the game - so far it's entirely random. Also, I downloaded the save data to my husbands PS4 Pro and it's working fine on there so far.

**If there are other people reading this experiencing the same issue, please reply so we can get a more accurate picture of how many people are encountering.

    Reply to Emfrannie

I managed to reinstall and reload just fine as well. Been playing for about an hour now. Managed to finish the mission I was on, so I think you're right about it not being a certain area thats corrupted.

If it happens again I'll keep you all posted. But if this was a system issue it would be more wide spread and not just affect a game or two.

    Thanks

I just experienced this as well. I don't have a disc since I downloaded it from the Playstation Store, but this also has never happened to me with any game on my PS4 before. I don't think the location matters, since I was killing some Angels in the basement of some house for a mission in Faith's region. I deleted the game and I'm reinstalling right now and hoping for the best. I've probably clocked 50+ hours in this game already. Defeated John, defeated Jacob, and was a few Resistance Points away from being able to defeat Faith. If I lose all of that progress, I'm gonna be so pissed off.

Thanks for all the further updates guys. There have been enough accounts now that it doesn't seem to be an isolated issue but it could be related to certain PS4 hardware configurations maybe. I'll pass it on to be looked into by the devs but in the mean time, can you update the thread with any details on when the corruption reoccurs after following the steps Emfrannie posted earlier on to get back playing.

Emfrannie it would be really useful to know if your profile works on another PS4 or a new profile works on your PS4 Pro withut getting the corruption error, as this would help with pinpointing the exact cause.

I'll keep you posted if I get any new workarounds or updates.
