    Low FPS/Stutter fix...and life story.

I will try to make this short and sweet. I have an Alien R18 that is a few years old. It has an I7-4700MQ, 8 gigs of ram, 2 765m in SLI, and a 750 gig Western Digital ATA drive. She has been a beast for years. This past year or so she is starting to show her age and the graphic settings are getting lower and lower. I am upgrading this summer so I figured I would get Farcry 5 anyways. The game is a blast! I have been running it with minimal fps drop. But the past 2 days it is getting worse. I have been gaming a few (too many) years. (I rented the original nintendo when it first came out.) I understand that our PC's aren't consoles. And that almost no 2 pc's are the same. Even with the same hardware in them, once we get them, we tailor them to our needs and likes with different setting and software. So any game at launch, even on a system that is over 2 grand, can either make you drool, or crash and burn. They can only test the games on so many setups, and with early access, they are reaching more. Even then, 1 bad line of code can ruin a patch, or screw up a setup that worked previously. So anyways, I am used to searching the web far and wide for fixes on games that have issues on my laptop. Which isn't many thank goodness. I tried a lot of ideas, and finally found one. Inside the \Steam\steamapps\common\FarCry5\bin\ folder, there is the Farcry.exe. Right click on it, hit properties, then compatability. Then near the bottom there is Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by: Check the box, and select Application. And hit apply. I also have run as admin clicked too. After changing this setting, I was able to take off in my seaplane, land, kill a bear, and do some fishing with 1 minor hiccup. I also messed with my virtual memory, but I think it only helped because I am running a lower end laptop atm. If the above doesn't work, try seeing if you need to free up some memory. I know this won't work for everyone, and maybe no one. But if it helps someone, cheers man. Good luck and safe hunting.

So much for being short. Haha!

Another thing to try. It sounds like some people that are running higher end systems and monitors are getting some stuttering when driving, picking up things, the help box on the side of the screen etc. This is possibly because of having a high Hz monitor that your frame rate is jumping around causing your fps to drop. Some may notice it more than others. One fix is to lock your FPS in the options to about 90. It will keep from your fps jumping around making it stutter. At 90 fps, your gameplay will be smooth.

I'm still noticing stutter in auto-saving, picking up items, and occasionally in vehicles. I even tried a program called "throttestop" because it was recommended that turning off turbo boost for Intel CPUs sometimes helps with stuttering. Can't tell if it helped any or just placebo effect.

Nameless, is it stuttering even on low settings?

Yes. It doesn't matter the settings. It's not a VRAM issue, it's a CPU issue. I think if you don't have 6 core CPU, you're going to get stutter. I have an i5-7400 @ 3.0ghz. When I checked my specs on Can You Run It website everything checks out except for the processor speed, so maybe that's it? Although I think people with better CPUs have noticed stuttering too. No idea. I've googled everything in the book and monitored this message board as well as the Steam board and reddit looking for answers. No idea. I give up.

Unfortunately more cores is also not solving this issue. I have 6800k and still it is stuttering on ammo pickups and others - look for other thread "stuttering" on this forum,

My 4700MQ is 4 cores and runs at 2.4Ghz. It's not OC'd. It runs smoothly with a hiccup every 15 minutes or so. But it's a 4 year old laptop that barely meets minimum requirements. Changing the VRAM from auto to close to recommended will free up some for the game. Unfortunately, a lot of us have the stuttering, but not necessarily the same issue with our pc. Hopefully this will help a few people.

Really? How is stuttering for you in vehicles?
