Sorry if a thread like this has been posted but reading reviews on this game it seems quite alot are unhappy with the story because the game they say isn't relevant to the current socio and political events of the US. So what, why does this bother people, it seems people are bothered that this game didn't go out of it's way to attack Christianity and fundamentalist religion. Fundamentalist atheism is obviously in full swing in the US and is just as much of a problem. The US is becoming a more poisonous place for the entertainment industry as everyone wants everything to be political, even actors in Hollywood are getting involved with movies being constantly churned out to support a certain agenda. It's sad these same people want the video game industry to push the same agenda and go even further and attack it for not supporting their socio and political outlook. At the end of the day what could a video game like this preach? What moral message could a video game that rewards you for killing people through a number of different ways give someone, there is nothing deep about this game. I felt the story was as deep as it could be and it wasn't pretentious at all which is what i was worried about, the characters were fully fleshed out and the only way i could become more immersed is if they had a dialogue option with the characters like fallout 4. The attack on a video game that is solely intended for fun by people who wanted it to be a political statement tells me all i need to know about the mindset of these individuals. I feel their efforts however to control all aspects of the media should be resisted
You're right that's what's pissed off a lot of people who maybe need to leave their parents basement now and then, and, you know, interact with other people.
But I think there is a fundamental problem that this game is attempting to follow Ubisofts recent push for total open world, player makes up their own story. That's great if your world offers enough chaos and there's repercussion for action, so a narrative develops out of that. But Far Cry is anything but that, it's just chaos, fun chaos, but the fact that it's in essence ticking off the checklist of things to do and every so often getting a little backstory for the thing you just did to complete it all, that makes it pretty hard to have a coherent story. It feels more like a sort of baseball card collection than a narrative.
I'm not sure what sort of mechanic you need to make something open world still feel like it's got direction and momentum. The gold standard for me with this is The Witcher 3. Because of the complexity of the side missions and the way they wove in with the main story I always felt that each thing I did was meaningful. It didn't depend on procedural events. Not that there isn't plenty of room for random events, just that they have to be really well designed, otherwise it becomes like perlin noise - sure it's "random" but somehow there's a pattern in there that's just all grey, all just too even. You wouldn't texture an asset with just noise now would you?
Because people, especially the "experts" are lonely virgins that critique everything for the sake of critiquing everything because they are *****s and have become annoying at this point. Half of them probably didn't even play the game or weren't paid off for biased reviews. That much is obvious. The minute I seen the story and the characters I knew it'd get low rating from the likes of game informer. Just because it's so easy to get pissy over political stuff. As if it's not a game.
The fact IGN gave it a 9 and one publication gave it a 6.5 shows just how biased these publications are. I don't pay any never mind anymore.
Far Cry 5 is the single best story ive seen in a far cry game. I always loved far cry but this one has wowed me early and often.
Every other far cry was we are on an island and this bad guy is killing the local tribe. let's go kill him. This is so much more deeper than that and i'm emotionally invested thus far.
The whole debate about this game is just plain silly and can be debunked in one statement:
"I think that ***** gave me the clap!" (Far Cry 3)
Its not the gamers making a big deal out of the "controversy".. obviously...
I am sure the media people reporting this "huge controversy" have little actual proof of it
and are trying to make a story, not report one.
All of the Far cry (s) have used stereotyped NPCs for the region they are in.
You can't compare far cry to Fallout though as with fallout its roughly 200 years since
the war and most if not all cultural exchanges have been wiped from the earth (as the game goes)
Instead of people and culture Fallout uses architecture and places of note to give the player that rpg feel.
Far Cry uses location and culture to do so.
I find the redneck angle to be hysterical. Its a game and people need to stop overthinking it.
I personally don't pay any attention to what the people who review games think. They don't seem to really know what they are talking about and if they hate something, I know I will love it... I have been trying really hard not to just rush through the story missions on this game and taking my time with it and making sure I do every little thing I can do in this. Seems people who review games just rush through them as fast as they can so they can just review it...
Anyway screw the haters, I love this game and the story so far is truly amazing. I love it.. I am constantly surprised by how it has it real serious moments that are just amazing story telling and other times it lightens itself up and is actually pretty funny .. I cant praise this game up enough, honestly I think my favourite game I have ever played
I am not sure if its my favorite as I am a elder scrolls/fallout groupie but they need to sit up and take notice of this game!
The boss fights are insane and the story line is more immersed than either elder scrolls or fallout. If the world was bigger with more to do
and a few minor issues such as the plane controls worked on I could see this being one of the top 10 classics
I thought the logical progression path to take (Arrest, Resist) was pretty awesome in terms of story. I did not expect that ending, and I applaud Ubisoft for making that choice. People will always find a reason to ***** in this day and age, so you shouldn't go around and take what people say seriously until you've experienced it yourself.
I am a believer of "you earn your happy ending" where you work hard to your goal and that is to arrest/kill the main boss. and in open worlds like these games it should be part of it. but it isn't. thats why i hate it.
no matter what you do, the boss wins. thats not being edgy thats being stupid and poor writing. all that hard work you put into side missions and connecting to other npc goes out the window.
after i beat the game i have no need to play again. i know the out come of all ending. just like FF15 you die so why play the game.
again, poor writing.
