Guns for Hire - more dissapointment than gamechanger

    Hey everyone,

so after playing a couple of hours and unlocking about half the specialists i have to say that i am very dissapointed with them.
to be fair i didn't expect much from the whole guns for hire system, but it's even worse than i anticipated.

let's start with the good things:

    - certain combinations can be a ****load of fun (hurk + cheesburger for example)
    - they do a decent amound on damage and can be very helpfull IF their AI doesnt go haywire (see cons below)

now let's look at the negatives:

    - their AI is garbage for 90% of the time... the time it takes them to follow any command can go from instant to "let me camp here and not move for 2 minutes for no reason"
    - you have NO real control over them ... yeah you can have them kill people but you cannot coordinate due to the problem above etc.
    - when other friendly AI is around, they tend to hit them by accidant and cause all friendly AI to become hostile and focus only on the player
    - their movement patterns are all over the place and they can't seem to handle stealth very well (not even the "sniper" or "bow" types)
    - they tend to go kamikaze in a full on engagements and therefore die before actually helping out (esp. problematic on hard)

the system was a nice idea and it fits the theme of the game rather well BUT the execution is (as expected) sloppy and not well thought out.
it's easy to handle but has no depth, no control and gives you almost no tactical adventage.

i only use them for overworld freeroaming but i do missions and camps solo because they are more of a liability than an actual help (especially when it comes to stealth)

i actually kind of hoped that we get at least a somewhat close implementation as we had in Ghost Recon Wildlands, but this sadly is the easiest way they could have gone.

the game is amazing in general and i'm having a blast playing it, but it's sad that this core-mechanic got handled so "lazily".

    edit: spelling

My biggest pet peeve to the guns for hire systems is that they all just use a default generic weapon.

Nobody seems to use any modified or alternative weapons.

It's either the .45, Shotgun, AR-C, or RPG. Not counting Hurk, Grace, or The bow chick.

Why can I not find a gun for hire that uses the .44 magnum? Or the Lever action rifle? Or the M14? Or even a different shotgun? Or the damn .50 sniper?

Yeah, being able to customize the loadout (/weapons) for the GFH would be awesome - same with being able to give more fine grained control.

But for now I would be happy with an options item to reduce/disable their chatter . . . listening to the same hand full of lines over and over again can be REALLY annoying - I'd rather have roam hope county with 2 other mutes than with robots that repeat themselves. Also, this one should be a quick fix . . .

Lack of variety in the basic fighters, lack of usage for most of the Specialists, and no customization options for them is really a downer. However, the basic fighters are good in general combat. The only peeve of mine with them is the stealth issue. When I order on to attack the enemies, I expect them to start shooting them, but they instead run up and buttstroke them.

Specialists each have their own issues. Boomer is useless outside hunting, Peaches is only good for stealth kills, Cheeseburger doesn't attack half of the time, Nick and Addie are only used for air support (Nick has been shot down in a dog fight once already, and has crashed into a tree once), Hurk is only good for anti air and he doesn't shut up, Sharky is...okay, I guess, Grace is a decent sniper, and Jess is only equipped with a bow, so heavy combat is hard without a second gun.

Grace and Jess are the only two that I've really used beyond the challenge numbers.

I've had a lot of fun stealth attacking camps with Jess/Boomer. If you're careful, Boomer stays undetected.
Figuring out the alarm locations before committing helps If things go badly, then its hilarious to drop Jess
and bring in Cheeseburger. By staying stealthy, you can clear more of the base, and rez Cheeseburger/Boomer
    when needed.

One gripe i have is even with all the stealth perks unlocked they can get you spotted and blow your cover really fast. Even while croutching.

But as far as the AI...i noticed with grace specifically there could be an enemy 10 feet from us, or a bear and she wont shoot it unless i mark it for her 9 out of 10 times. I did get her and nick to work in tandem during a mission and it was amazing. I had to protect a cult defector in a trailer park. I had grace posted on a hill 200 yards away, and nick doing bombing runs while i was in trailer picking off guys running towards us. Those 2 did such a good job the mission was juat like a movie and they were killing people all around me. It was awesome.
