fixed!
I just picked up Far Cry 5 & my save game corrupted with the trapper error (as many others have reported) after I crashed in one of the chopper flying missions (Glory Holes). The game then respawned me back in the chopper in open-world mode, which I then crashed, and even though I survived, I then got stuck on the ground, unable to move at all (no mouse response). After quitting out, then the save games then caused the error.
A posted solution was to find the save files, and to remove the 2. named one (or try 1., or both). the idea is to let the cloud restore good versions of the file(s). Didn't work for me as the cloud already had the same corrupt files.
I then tried a zillion things - but finally this worked:
1. Start Uplay from the Start Menu & change it so it doesn't synchronize saves with the cloud (we don't want our local files overwritten every time we restart the game, nor do we want the cloud saves getting updated, as a safety backup).
2. backup the (corrupt) two game files & delete them.
3. start a new game, then exit when you arrive at the compound.
4. You now have two CLEAN save game files. Back those up too.
I then tried pasting just one, or the other, of the two corrupt save games over the clean files, in the hope that the one holding the actual progress was still intact, but was being tripped up by corruption in the other (which the clean version would correct). Neither combination worked.
Then next day as a last ditch attempt, I tried this:
3. copy both corrupt files into place.
4. SWAP their names around (so 1. becomes 2. and 2. becomes 1.)
5. overwrite the 2. version with the clean file.
You now have:
1.save = actually the CORRUPT 2.save
2.save = the CLEAN 2.save
Now it loaded back into the chopper in open-world mode! I managed to safely land it, and then could continue the missions! My inventory, perks and AI buddy were intact too. There might be repercussions but I haven't hit them yet.
If this doesn't work for you, try other combinations.
