    HDR/Brightness issues

I've found that slot of your users are experiencing issues with the current brightness slider on multiple platforms. I'm running a ps4 pro on a sony z9d primarily(though it happens on pc as well.) The game is far to bright and washed out, in HDR or SDR. It's just this game. We definitely need a HDR peak luminance setting to combat clipping visual data (example: every specular highlight is clipped to white during daytime in-game, the sky is 75% pure white and blinding.) With all the varying HDR tv's and their varying performance I find it necessary to dial the game in. We absolutely need a fix to your paper white brightness slider and must get a peak luminance slider to keep from clipping information. I can tell you've made a great looking world, shame it's lost in a washed out overblown presentation.

The game has a bug with it’s brightness in HDR, certainly on Xbox.

The peak brightness falls well within the range of your TV, but the game is still too bright by default.

The solution (On Xbox anyway) is to drop the brightness back when in SDR a few clicks and this carries across onto HDR.
(4 clicks from the left seemed good to my eyes)

Unfortunately this does make certain assets such as the HUD menus and title screen look not right.
I do analysis on HDR games at This site

I’ve tweeted Ubisoft about it, but they haven’t responded

I have to go a little further to make it tolerable on ps4 pro. I've run into this issue with every version of the game, though. That's why I have been hounding Ubisoft for a peak luminance slider on HDR Displays. Once that variable is set correctly we should notice that the brightness slider is more useful. If I play outside of game mode it is certainly more tolerable due to better tone mapping, even still, it's not good by any standard. Plus the input lag I accrue using that solution is horrendous. Ubisoft, what's the word, will you address these issues?

The peak brightness isn't actually the issue The game is mastered to target approx 1500nits, which your TV can easily achieve, so you shouldn't need a peak brightness slider. Whilst it's nice to have, in this situation you really won't gain much.
If you don't know already, the ZD9 needs to have contrast set at 86, otherwise it raises up to peak brightness much faster than the HDR10 OETF and clips sooner, resulting in visible peak white clipping.

That's a drag. Wonder how badly that will be down to 86. It was calibrated professionally at a higher contrast, hope it doesn't have a dramatic change. Time to find out.

Just drop it down for HDR content

It's helped quite a bit, still behaving differently than all the other games. Might try importing my cinema pro white balance settings over to game mode. Importing from cinema home produced 98% the same image. Hoping for improvements, cinema home clips at the same rate as game mode. Changing contrast from 90 to 86 sounds allot better than 100 down to 86. Appreciate the help, happy gaming.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but im having the same issues, clouds clipping when contrast is at max on my sony xe7073.

Doesn’t matter if I move the hdr slider to the lowest the clouds dont change, I did take the contrast down to 90 which makes it better but any lower than 90 the picture starts getting to dim for my liken.

The xbox hdr is absolute trash from my experience every single game I have played on it using hdr was completely washed out, it looked like games had a constant misty brightness over the screen.

The xbox never said if it was using yuv420 or yuv422, but from my experience the hdr on ps4 pro is by far superior! whether thats because the xbox isn’t putting out yuv422 I dont know. Theres youtube vidoes showing how bad hdr is on xbox having a misty washed out look.

It’s not just far cry 5 I have noticed cloud clipping its been in god of war and gt sport as well and even some hdr videos on youtube can have clipping, I think contrast in hdr depends on the game or film.

If your beastly sony ZD9 is having this issue then it must be down to bad hdr implementation.
