    Is this mission broken?!?

So the plane I started the mission in was taking damage and about to blow so I had to bail out and parachute to the ground.. At first, John Seed was dive-bombing me and I used my LMG and .50 cal sniper with standard/armor-piercing rounds to little effect (His plane still had about 3/4 of it’s health left when I ran out of ammo and was quickly overwhelmed by swarms of cultists.) When i respawned I fast traveled to a nearby shop to refill my ammo and replace my sniper rifle with the RPG. Now John is flying in circles 300-400 yards in the air and won’t come near me.. I haven’t done Nick Rye’s mission yet so calling him in is out of the question, the original plane I started the mission with at Seed Ranch isn’t respawnibg, and I don’t have money to go buy a weaponized plane either. WHAT CAN I DO?!? (I’m playing on medium difficulty and would rather not switch it to easy if I don’t have to as I like a good challenge, but this is just ridiculous).

    Reduce speed

Simply reduce the speed of the plane you're flying, then you should be able to stay behind him easily

There should be a helicopter near by use it after the chases is triggered fly to Falls End land and just shoot him down.

I managed to nail him with a rocket from about 50 m away, then something glitched and I didn't see his parachute, so I had to jump out of the plane and dive after him.

Dumb bastard couldn't escape me in a tractor.

I tried several times to shoot him down from the plane, died every time. Then I went to find a helicopter and parachuted out and tried to hit him with a rocket launcher. Didn't work. Finally, I went back to his ranch & found a stationary machine gun right in front. I stood there for idk 5 mins and shot at his plane while he circled around. If you're having trouble maybe try it that way because it's a lot easier!!

John lost control of his plane

Same happened to me. I didn't have the chance to start depleting his health bar. I was just starting again in a new plane when I heard him in panic on the radio. He said he was about to crash and some peggies even said "John's plane has crashed". It wasn't the case yet and DESTROY turned into GET as I was flying behind his plane about to land. I constantly shot the machine gun at him and when I almost crashed during landing, the mission was validated. I didn't have to shoot him on the ground as he was already dying on the ground when the cinematic started right after the success of the Wrath mission.
I thought it was an alternative for those, like me, who had failed many times.

On maybe my third attempt, I'd gotten so frustrated that I simply landed the plane, got out, and walked away. I expected to see a big red Mission Failed screen. Instead, I heard John Seed over the radio, telling me to get back in my plane and fight. I figure this has to be it, he'll warn me a couple times, then I'll get the screen. Then I hear him over the radio again, this time sounding as though he's been hit and his plane is going down. At this point, the Mission Indicator has gone from Destroy John's Plane to Get The Bunker Key. Eventually I hoof it over to John's bunker, where I encounter various cult members. Sharky and Jess, my Guns for Hire, have turned up, having been unavailable while I was in the air. We're fighting right outside the entrance to the bunker when I turn around and there's John. I get off a couple shots with my .50 cal, but it looks like he's got me. I fall back to take a Medkit, the screen turns gray, and I here again I'm waiting for a Mission Failed screen.

That's when the cut scene kicks in, John Seed delivers his parting speech, and then expires.

I searched around but didn't find an example of anyone else having a similar encounter. Did I just get lucky with a glitch?

Strangest ending of this mission for me. I guess I crashed into his plane, died, respawned WAAAY north in Jacob's territory (almost 7000m from where it said John was). It said to get the key from him. Finally tracked down an ATV (was way up in the mountains), hauled balls back only to find out he's at his bunker, firing a mortar??? Popped him in the head, and that triggered the end of the mission and the cut scene...

Make a change to the way the plane is controlled, the default is not the best setting because it auto-corrects to level out and doesn't allow a barrel roll.
it is in .... Controls / Planes / Plane controls - Classic
That option will be closer to real flight and works better for this mission part.
Then go to Options / Gameplay / Aiming Assist - On
    and
    Game Difficulty - Easy

After making those changes, you can fly the plane at lowest speed and to do that just get into the air and reduce flight speed until you stall out then tap the accelerator button once.
This lets you fly upside down and sideways, without stalling and slow enough to keep Johns plane ahead of you for shooting.
Your turns will be sharper and john will happily fly within range of your bullets.

Also add the GFH, Rye and his plane to assist you in the dog fight.
Eventually John will parachute out and when he does, do the same thing and shoot him in the sky while you both float to the ground :-)
That is why you change the difficulty to easy, and Aim Assist on .. so you don't miss :-)
