So started playing yesterday with my mate, was super excited had heaps of fun absolute awesome gaming experience however after smashing out 7 hours we log off to bed only for him to find out his personal progression hasn't moved past the tutorial island.. This is a huge disappointment its a hollowing feeling for him and I can't see any reason for it. Like yeah I see that the second person is a "gun for hire" for story purposes however In the cut scenes they aren't there so I don't see why to them I'm not just a gun for hire in their progression... My question to ubisoft is do they expect us to run through the game twice? Because my friend obviously wants to finish the game on his account as well..
Yeah I'm on the same boat. Was playing for a good 4 hours to only realise when I returned to single player that my progress in the story didn't progress. This is very frustrating and makes the coop feel pointlessOriginally Posted by VanillaHarambae Go to original post
Yeah. I don't really feel motivated to do the co-op anymoreOriginally Posted by timpbader Go to original post
Agreed, after the first few trailers I avoided further ones to keep the hype at bay and avoid overloading on information. The fact it was stated you could play the entire campaign in co-op was the key selling point and I was significantly disappointed to only find out that guest progress would not be saved by in a tool tip in game. This was after I convinced my friend to buy a copy as well.
One or two trophies popped for both of us as we played today so possibly we will not need to do an entire playthrough with him as the host to achieve the platinum however this is not ideal and he will need me to be online to maintain progress or start their own save from scratch.
Why couldn't the system from Ghost Recon be used as that was perfect for drop in/drop out co-op and you could repeat activities previously completed to help friends catchup to maintain a level playing field.
The more I play the worse this issue becomes.. the problem is a lot of the game is made for single player pretty much most flying missions especially the one to get nicks plane back has one player literally just sitting in the back seat watching... There are quite a few times where this has happened in a mission where one play is just a spectator definitely not an enjoyable experience..
I am also quite annoyed by this "feature" of coop.
My cousin and I play every game we can together, we live in different states and it's the easiest way for us to hang out as it were. We're also both huge fans of this series, so when we saw that this one would be full coop campaign we were immediately on board. We both preordered the game, got hyped, and jumped in on release day eager to start applying our own personal brand of justice...only to find out that when he joins my game, he gets to participate and earn money and perks but never actually advance his own story.
Not only does this mean that if he wants completion he has to go back and redo everything in the game solo, but also while playing coop he can never upgrade his gear. It's fun to get new weapons and mod them and paint them and have a grand old time with it, but new guns are locked behind Resistance Points which can only be gained by progressing your story. This means after a few days of playing I am sitting nicely on 5-6 resistance levels and a majority of the guns in the game available to me while he has access to only starter weapons, or he can pay 5 times the price for a specially painted one just to have something new to use.
Perhaps the worst part is that, even if Ubi were to patch in a way for coop partners to progress their story, it's too little too late. He would still be as behind as he is now and we would at the very least have to redo everything we've done together up to this point. It's just a bafflingly stupid design choice in my opinion, hopefully this massive mistake is learned from for future titles.
I played for ten hours witgh my gaming buddy and always as the guest player. The only thing I didn't like was not being able to unlock new weapons. I don't get why. Why would you be able to unlock perks, but not weapons? Probably because of the mechanic that your recistance meter doesn't increase...
When I got back to my single player I was much stronger and I liked that. Also the idea to play everything again is like, not really a bad thing for me. The game is so much fun, so why not see the replaying of missions as extra stuff to do. The only thing is: I don't get WHY Ubisoft choose this mechanic, considering that GR Wildlands, as mentioned here before, is so much better in co-op progression...
As a workaround players should switch as guest and host player every couple of hours in order to diminish the negatives of not progressing and not being able to unlock new weapons.
