For the record, I tried set my RAM speed to default without XMP profile enabled. It worked in FC5 but it also bring anothers issue so switched back to 3200mhz.
As suggested by kim0707:
Your desktop color depth MUST be set to True Color (32 bit).
use your nvidia color settings from control panel and set it to 32 bit and rgB color and 8bcp
Fix the issue so far for me, I played for 3 hours without a crash !
Thanks for sharing your fixes guys! Reminder that if the troubleshooting and fixes in this thread do not help, please create a ticket with your MSINFO and DXDIAG files.
Hey everyone! I too had this same problem with Far Cry 5 having the "Oh no.....etc" then sending a crash report. At the time I was fine tuning a PC I had just built as my last one wouldn't play Far Cry 5. In my issue it turns out I had forgotten to update my motherboard BIOS which had TONS of fixes to the memory modules and the graphics PCI ex16 slot.
I started getting these errors when I upgraded my RAM from 2 x 4GB sticks at 1,336 MHz (cheap slow DDR4) to 2 x 8GB sticks at 2,400MHz (3,000MHz OC). When I installed the memory (without updating my BIOS) I started getting these errors. I eventually fixed them by updating my BIOS, my CPU chipset drivers, and manually setting my memory speed at 2,400MHz (it was defaulting to 2,667MHz and still giving me error) as soon as I set my speed to that, I have played for a week with NO crashes.
Now I'm not saying that changing your memory to 2,400 MHz will fix it however while looking up all the errors in the activity center of Windows, I was able to find that the errors were coming from either RAM errors, or my graphics card was giving RAM errors. I guess the communication between graphics memory/CPU and motherboard memory/CPU was messing up after a set amount of time.
So I would check this list:
- Look up your motherboard model/version and make sure you are using the most recent BIOS (super easy to install, YouTube it, takes less than 5 minutes) however know that all your BIOS settings will go to a default based on the update, if you have been manually changing anything in your BIOS (fan speed, overclocking, etc.) you need to go back in and change again.
- Try to go to your BIOS and manually change your memory speed (IF YOU KNOW HOW) to a common rounded value (1600, 2400, 3000, 3200 MHz) if it's set different than any of those (PLEASE know about memory speed and if your memory supports these speeds before trying!) If your memory doesn't support these speeds, there is a possibility of overheat or damage!
- Make sure your obviously using the latest graphics driver for your graphics card.
For me it was updating my BIOS and manually changing my memory to 2,400MHz and it hasn't crashed since on this game or any. Hope this helps!
I had played with NO crashes / freezes at all using a 6700K on a Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 5 mobo. Then my bios crashed and I swapped the mobo out for an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming.
Nothing else changed in my system except I added in a Samsung 960 EVO Nvme 250gb SSD drive. SInce the mobo change I was getting crash to desktop and few total system failures every time I went to the map menu or to a shop.
That was using latest Nvidia drivers on 1080. I turned all my overclocks off the cpu but made not difference. Tried few previous drivers, still crashed until I tried the Driver in late January. Nvidia 390.77 and it now does not crash at the Shop or map menu.
I tinkered with the fullscreen and borderless settings as well as HDR but they seem ok although the Ubiplay overlay causes havoc onscreen sometimes, it definitely needs some work on how it gets implemented.
My conclusion is there is something in the video driver conflicting with some motherboards because with the Gigabyte mobo I had tried the last two Nvidia drivers and both worked perfectly whereas on the Asus motherboard both of those crashed. Nvidia drivers have been flakey for me from time to time with different games unfortunately.
I'll be waiting on a refund. Game shouldn't be crashing randomly.
Game crash 10 minutes into playing and sometimes 3 hours.
Yesterday it crashed 3 times within 30 minutes. The day before that it crashed after 2 hours into the game.
I tried uninstalling everything, drivers, game and even started game over again.

Folks (with Nvidia cards),
Try new driver from Nvidia. I believe this should fix Far Cry 5 crashing issues. Personally, I'm not seeing any issues since yesterday after I installed it.
The driver release notes also addresses the same:
Fixed Issues in this Release
[GeForce GTX 1060][Far Cry 5]: The game crashes after a few minutes of game play.[2096077]
Windows 10 Issues
[Far Cry 5]: Green flickering occurs in the game when using HDR with non-native
