I know that the majority of players use the damage numbers display option and it is nice to be able to tell if you are landing white hits, hits on armor, crits, or headshots but it can also be a lot of clutter. Would it be possible to apply the same color code to the hit marker, expanding on how it currently changes to yellow when we hit weak points? My intuition tells me that it should be as simple as coding it to get its coloring from the damage numbers, but gods knows misled that thinking could be.
I know this change may only really be appreciated by a small percentage of players, but I think those that dislike the damage numbers would appreciate it a lot!
I agree with you and have posted a similar feature request myself quite some time ago:

I love seeing the damage numbers and having the instant feedback on what I'm doing, but the numbers simply get in the way too much.
The text is also rendered almost fully opaque when it first registers the hit on the target, so it's often just a mess of solid text that completely obscures the aiming reticle from view, making it quite difficult to maintain proper accuracy during heavy sustained fire.
I basically want to change this:
... into something more like this instead:
You could still display some smaller appropriately coloured "sparks" over the target to indicate hitting weak points, landing crits, landing headshots, and so on... but simpy move the damage numbers above the target's head and closer to their health bar instead.
This would provide us with the important feedback we require, while keeping our aiming reticle free of annoying clutter and distractions.
At the very least I would like to see an opacity slider for the damage numbers so that we could make them appear less distracting, just like we can adjust the aiming reticle thickness and opacity.
Cheers!
