Highlanders kick/toss mix up has a universal counter of walking backwards (with minimal spacing) and letting a light attack rip.
Even if this wasn't a thing it's not a 50 50 because rolling escapes it.
50/50's force you to guess and if you guess wrong you take damage. if a move or some strat exists that removes the guessing factor and trumps both options it's not a true mix up either.

With better spacing you can do the same thing with a raw kick. and dodging the raw toss late works on most if not all heros.

Vanguards with BAd dodge ( Warden) are screwed.

Warden has a side dodge recovery of 500ms. The reason he can't dodge GB immediately like other 500ms dodges is because he ques his bash.
if you've got great timing you can GB after a side dodge if you wait about 100ms. which puts your reaction time to an attack at 600ms.

as a highlander myself i can tell you that the requirement of actually getting into off.stance in order to use your unblockables is a big deal. if you enter it "normally" you will immediately get jumped because that's when you're vulnerable. we can only do it at a far range and try to dodge our way closer (risky af) or the safer and more common way, Fastflow into it by first landing an attack.

the highlander can Fastflow into off.stance after any attack or parry. these actions will put the opponent at a frame disadvantage (stuck in animation for a while) giving the highlander time to go into Fastflow and unleash their first attack safely and force you to respond to it rather than just tapping lightatk.

now here's a secret, dont tell anyone; if i try to feint the first attack then any light or fast heavy (cent) will interrupt me. that is probably a better reaction than trying to dodge since it covers more options against the kick/toss combo. as a direct response to this, i more often open with the heavy(unblockable) so that i have the option to hardcancel it to parry or squeeze in my light. this has become my go-to Fastflow followup since the kick/toss combo is way too risky vs fast attackers or any dodgeatk.
the video in this thread is a bad example since it's either specific to the gladiator OR (and this is more likely) the person playing the gladiator is too slow with the inputs for his attacks. as soon as the game has registered your atk input (left mouseclick or whatever for consol) he will become IMMUNE to grabs including cabertoss. dodgeatks > kick/toss combo.

    i forgot to mention:
a reason why it's a big deal is because highlanders do not have any fast attacks at all. we must rely on the blockproperty of our slowass lights, or armor on the latter half of our heavies. the armor activates so slow that our front dashatk softfeinted into a side will activate the armor faster, and that still is not enough vs people spamming lights. it can get pretty tough just doing anything at all vs all these berserkers and shamans.
