IMO a better comparison would probably be Ocean Legend, in fact after watching some of the new trailers I can see where there are some direct draws from that game. To me it really doesn't look much like world of warships at all- I haven't played that for a while but when I did it was just one melee style naval combat after another with nothing in between, and I got bored with it pretty quickly. I'm excited about this game, it looks like it is going to be a lot of fun to play, and I really don't understand all the complaining about no land navigation (doing what?) or boarding. As far as I am concerned the devs are getting this game just right.

I think all of you should understand that pirating very rarely involved being on land. That was usually after a successful hunt to celebrate at a tavern and off loading the bounty of the hunt. Therefore what we have seen and know so far, the Devs have developed a game that truly embodies being a pirate and thats Being on your Ship going after the next big score. But agree to disagree.
a pirate game where you are stuck to the helm of the ship and the only thing you can do is blow up other ships? meh...pretty sure the real pirates back then also walked in islands and even DOVE underwater

Real pirates back then also got themselves executed, marooned, killed by nutritional deficiencies or diseases, ate, drank, pooped, froze, burned, drowned, plagued, covered in lice, etc.

For some reason, a game that is unabashedly focused on the naval / ship-and-crew-focused experience doesn't have strolls through town to buy groceries or pointless excursions into islands to skin jaguars and make pistol holsters from their pelts while contracting malaria, so I guess we'll just have to accept that a game about captaining ships focuses on captaining ships.

I'm not aware of any historical basis for the claim that pirates dove on shipwrecks, but I'll dig around and see what I can find.

yeah but they can still add island exploration and manual boarding since it was possible back then

So was a life as a peaceful merchant doing nothing but engaging in legal economic trade. So was never getting on a ship at all, and living a life on land as a barber. Yet that's not what the game is about.

Realism be damned, I wanna diving bell! While I'm sure it was pure fantasy I think it added a nice change of pace to Black Flag and could be a fun diversion in this game as well. Don't really care about the sword fighting since that's available in plenty of other games.

There are opportunities to interact with locations in the world currently in the game already (shipwrecks, coastal sites, stuff like that). However, they're similar to the boarding process, in that they are quick cutscene-type events. With the interactive locations, you reach the location, "choose a reward" so to speak (the ones we saw in the gameplay previews let you pick between Deception (if appropriate to the location), Loot, or salvaging a Repair Kit), and then the game runs the mini-scene.

As with boarding, there hasn't been shown any manual diving or anything like that, and Justin and the official Q&A have come out and basically said "No you aren't going to walk around on a bunch of islands exploring them." It's probably safe to assume at this point that the same will continue to be true for interacting with shipwrecks and the like.

Why would you want to go into the water when there are all sorts of creatures there (maybe even kraken!)

yeah unfortunately this game isn't about that, its just a naval simulator...well too bad actually because this game could have lots of potential man I mean look at other middle ages games where its open online world controlling a character, why can there not be an open online world PIRATE game?

because the underwater world is beautiful btw it also makes it scarier when you dive in the kraken areas
