That seems to be the case lol, better late than never.

However there are not smoke grenades, only a drone that shoot's a grenade.

Is sad that they didn't include them from the beginning

Hi J-109373! We've previously stated that the team was looking into smoke grenades for PvP, but there are no plans for smoke grenades in PvE.

No, but right now the updates are for people that do enjoy PVP. You don't? Well, sad for you.

He didn't say anything about PVP is bad or balabalabala, smoke grenade should be part of pve because it's the basic requirement for a tactical shooter.
