Far Cry 4 running poorly on new system

    Hi,

I just bought FC4 to tide me over until FC5 comes out. However after installing it I'm getting really bad performance, with little to no difference on low or ultra settings.

    My system is

    i9 7900x (3.3 but OC'd to 4.4GHz)
    32gigs DDR4
    Nvidia GTX 1070
    Win 10 64bit.
    Monitor resolution 1440p

This rig blast through everything else I play, but in FC4 I get between 17-29fps at 1440p( regardless of graphic settings in the game). I've tried the GamerProfile.xml tweaks which didn't seem to make much difference. Is there something I'm missing here? It really makes me paranoid about how FC5 might perform.

    I think i can help :)

    Hi,

I have a core i9 also and was experiencing the same problems you describe. I believe the reason for this happening is poor optimization for high core count CPU's. My solution was to download this tool: https://bitsum.com/ it's called process lasso, and basically what it allows you to do is to disable cores for a specific application and allow the game to run on only 4 cores, which for me has given the best result, i went from 30-40 fps to now having around 80-90 fps in far cry 4. It isn't a perfect solution as my GPU is still not being utilized fully but at least it is playable. You could also do this in task manager, however with processor lasso, you are able to having the setting automatically be applied everytime you run the game instead of having to do it manually everytime you wish to play. I will upload an image of what it looks like.

    Hope this helps!

no clue other then your CPU may be too new , the game may not be able to use all those cores and threads on your I 9

the game was made years before that CPU was even available

    runs great here at over 100 FPS in 1440 P < Nvidia DSR .. ..almost 200 FPS in 1080 P (if i disable v sync )

Intel i 5 7600 K OC @4,4 Ghz via asus ez tune in my bios
    ASUS Strix Gaming Z 270 H motherboard
16 gig of Crucial ballistix Sport DDR 4 - 2400 also OC by my bios
Gigabyte Windforce 2 GTX 1060 6 gig card
Samsung 840 Evo SSD drive (500 gig )
Thermaltake 500 WATT 80+ power supply
    Seiki LC40G81 40" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV
    Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

also if your using the latest Nvidia driver try back dating to the 388 series drivers ,, they seen to work alot better then the new ones ..........for me at least
i also always Use DDU when installing my Nvidia drivers and perform a Clean install with NO geforce EXP or other Nvidia bloat ware
just the drivers and control panel and HDMI audio and PHYSX

i doubt they are gonna patch the game for the newer Massive core amount CPU's ....as not many people own them yet , and the engine itself may just be too old

so you may wanna try to disable hyperthreading and or limit the number of CPU cores your using when ya play far cry 4 ????

    see this page http://www.techverse.net/limit-numbe...grams-windows/

you can do it right in task manager

oh and by the way if your using Nvidia game works settings shut off PCSS soft shadows .. use Ultra for shadows

Nvidia soft shadows alone can really hurt your FPS ..thats been broke since the game shipped in the Nvidia drivers

Nvidia PCSS soft shadows were totally busted for SLI day 1 ... and after patch 1.8.0 months later once Ubi fixed em ....they take a huge toll on your FPS ..almost double the hit on your FPS vs Ultra shadow settings

Well to tie this one up, I found that with the game running, if I went into task manager and into CPU affinity I could un check a few cores, then recheck them so all cores were still enabled. After doing this I returned to the game and was seeing the FPS pegged at 70 ( my monitors refresh). So I assume it is some voodoo with how it works with the CPU. What ever the case I have a work able solution, and I feel better as I wait for FC5.
