If I try to actually use the prompts for parry or GB I can't time it. I have to be zoned out and then I do it more on instinct.

I stopped using the indicator and started parrying by watching when their weapon will hit me and my parrying improved ten fold because of it. I no longer need to memorise different timings or fall for unblockable feint spam now that I look for their weapon to come close to me to know when it is safe to parry.

Past a certain point the indicator will lead you astray if you get tunnel vision and rely solely on it.
