Look Out Adventure, Sci-fi is the New Meta!

Hey guys! Emokore here, and today I wanted to discuss the Sci-fi theme. For a long time Adventure has reigned as the top tier theme, but now that time has come to an end. Right now the Sci-fi theme is poisoning the competition. Some players are combining Adventure and Sci-fi for a deck that is able to melt apart any threat. Other players are, like myself, are combining Fantasy and Sci-fi, giving them access to some of the best cards in the game, in one deck. A few die hard masochists are combining Mystical and Sci-fi, to enable a good defense and offence. Lets take a look at what some of the top Sci-fi cards are right now, here are my top 6:

    1. Alien Queen Red - The MVP of sci-fi right now. She is able to clear a whole field of units, and leave you a body to defend with for only 5. Her poison does not end, but will be the death of any unit it hits, unless it is purified.
    2. Mecca Timmy - Very strong ranged unit able to change the whole outcome of a battle with his mind control charge ability.
    3. Astronaut Butters - One of the best assassins in the game! 2 energy with great stats, although it has a slow attack speed, it makes up for that by having one of the best deathwishes in the game. It's deathwish enables combos with headhunters, but even when hitting most other units, it can create a huge advantage, and often lead to destroying an opponents phone.
    4. Alien Clyde - Arguably the best Clyde, as he always hits a unit, and is easy to level up, being a common.
    5. Poison - The bread and butter Sci-fi spell, able to wipe out your opponents units for only 3 energy! Since the range is so high, it often will clear the whole enemy board. However for only 2 more energy, one could play red and kill everything while getting a body too.
    6. Enforcer Jimmy - Fantastic 2 drop warrior able to shut down charge abilities with just his proximity. The only problem is his stats and attack speed is pretty weak.

I used to be a Mystical - Fantasy players. Some people, who don't play Mystical themselves, cotinue to claim that Mystical is still very strong. I even had someone on the forum say that Purify should be nerfed further to 3 energy! But I had the feeling it was dead. So I decided to do a little test. I played 20 matches in a row and wrote down what my opponents were playing. I know it was only 20 matches, but still ... .
These were the results: 16 times Sci-fi, 14 times Adventure, 6 times Fantasy and 4 times Mystical.
I can't remember the last match I saw anyone play Purify or Powerbind.

My conclusion would be that Mystical is not dead, but on serious life support probably from players who hace invested heavily in it and don't have a replacement theme leveled high enough yet. Sci-fi is not 100% the meta, but if Mystical doesn't get buffed soon it will be. I was surprised about how bat Fantasy scored, but off course just like Mystical it also misses direct damage spells.
Poison is running rampant because with the nerfing of Regeneration and especially Purify there is just no counter. If you get hit by Poison all you can do is wait it out. The explanation for the nerfing of Mystical was that it disrupted strategies of other themes, but I strongly believe any collectible card game should have a disruptive theme (I used to play Magic the Gathering and that game also had cards like 2 blue mana Counterspell).
And while Purify and Powerbind have been nerfed to death, Sci-Fi has a walking powerbind called Enforcer Jimmy for the same energy cost and Adventure has a walking purify called Shaman Token that can purify the entire field.
If the developers don't do something quickly to balance the themes, in a while almost everybody will be playing Sci-Fi - Adventure. And ones that has happend, it will be difficult to change it again.

I agree with Emokore that sci-fi theme is where its at. Although, I only use 2 of the cards he recommended. I tried the poison route, but I could never seem to keep my bodies on the field at the same time. I had people use purify, but I always laughed cause then I would spawn something else and poison again, eating up 1 of there energy. Plus the poison usually countered jimmy. I think its silly they nerfed purify, i mean it with the powerbind were the only 1 energy level cards in the game. Combine that with the low energy tanks, and healers made the deck pretty tough, especially combining the low energy assassins or other healers from adventure. We can't forget that mystic is also the only deck with 3 legendaries (if you exclude the elusive visitors in sci-fi). So in the end its probably best to nerf mystic a little for now.

I digress though back to sci-fi though. I believe this to be a sleeping giant. First off, we have to remember that the epics and legendaries are inherently better than commons and rares. Unfortunatly I don't know all the legendaries energy cost so my conclusion is based off the epics. Because they start requiring 25 cards at level 3, you rarely see a level 4 (at least between 47-50 where I'm currently snuggled) but when that line starts being reach by more characters, you will have tougher cards to counter.

Adventure epics, you have storyteller jimmy, hookhand clyde, pocahontas randy and arrowstorm. Arrowstorm is great for low level assassins and even some archers. Its even an excellent quick counter to dougies and kenny. The other three have argueablly better counter parts already, randy especially where sci-fi and fantasy. Jimmy could be good, but until I see the exact attack decrease stat, I couldn't say for sure. Mines currently maxed at level 2. I do use hookhand clyde in my best deck, as he can one hit a lot of characters and there has been game savers with him hitting the leader. He is currently maxed at level 3, with 4/25 cards.

Mystic Epics, you have choirboy butters, hermes kenny, Sexy Nun Randy, and Pope Timmy. I was actually a mystic fan in the beginning for the energy manipulation; I was greatly dissappointed. In mystics defence I had all low levels when I was trying. Personally, I don't like having a lot of death wishs in my deck because mind control can steal them, which is what I enjoy doing with my mecha timmy to butter and kenney. Pope Timmy is the highest costing epic, and I only see people use it with manbearpig. And again, you have sexy nun randy, who I believe is tiedd with adventure randy. So mystic is a good starter deck, but long term could start to fall behind. They do have 3 legendaries again, which master ninjew kyle is rather difficult to counter and he only cost 4.

Fantasy Epic, Chicken Coop, Rogue Token, Amazing Randy, **** Magic, Transmogrify. This deck has the most epics, and the most *****. That **** magic, can completely flip the board when played precisily at the right time. Pope timmy and manbearpig combo to be extra specific. Transfogrify, only has a few good times to play, since it only targets one player and keeps a fast assassin body on the field with a high energy cost. I don't think its worth it. Chicken coop could potentially cause harm if there is tanks to agro for them. Rogue Token, argueably 1 of top 5 best epics. Only costing 4 and contributing a fast high attack warcry makes it very diffcult to counter. Last but not least, Amazing Randy; lowest costing randy plus range makes him the best epic randy and maybe even randy in general. I can see Budha Cartman, Amazing Randy and chicken coop quickly causing mayhem as the field fills with ***** and randy staying back attacking.

Sci-Fi Epics There is Awesom-0, Cyborg Kenny, Program Stan, and Gismo Ike. Awesome-0, second highest costing cartman with same health as budha cartman but with attack and a freeze attack which gives him 4seconds longer life. I combine him with program stan, to add 2 extra seconds of life and 30 damage across the board. This board freezes can counter rats, pigeons and gnomes by the base from the other side of the board, as well as buy you some time with dougies and kenneys too. Cyborg Kenney, usually causes a spell card to be used but if not, can cripple a small group in seconds, there are so many ways to counter a cyborg kenney that I don't think its worth it that much, i personally use lightening or mecha timmy (countering his mind control effect with mine). Gizmo ike, has so much potential but rarely gets achieved in pvp, although I personally like to use him for Budha Cartman and Mimzy, but his low level right now gets wasted by nathan or mephesto.

So that being said, I found when I made a deck that had as much epics and legendaries as possible that I actually climb the pvp ladder fast than my common, low mana cost stradegy. But because of there high material cost, high coin cost and rare duplicate requirement makes it extrememly slow, resource consuming and single stradegy dedication, which is why I found 5 epics and 1 legendary the most manageable soltion. I found Mecha Timmy, Awesome-0, Program Stan, Hookhand Clyde, Arrowstorm and Dogpoo. I have 1 level 5, 3 level 4, and 2 level 2. The rest are level 3 and I comfortably sit at rank 49. I completely control the field while also having some hard to counter combo's. Once I breach level 4 with 2 of my epics, I believe I will find myself settled on the legendary board easily.

So I warn everyone thinking the low cost, high level common card stradegy will not be an end game stradegy. Start focusing your resources on your epics, I only use my pvp tickets on epic materials and cards.

If you guys are playing sci-fi and are not using Alien Queen Red, you are missing out on a lot of control. Not only do you get infinite poison on all of the enemy units no matter their location, you get a body to defend and ruler slap the poisoned group to death. Often times you get a 3+ for 1.

Since you are not in legendary status your post is irrelevant, true skill is legendary mode not silver shield, in silver I finish all my matches in a minute Minute in a half, in legendary I fight till the end, mystic dint have counter to sci fi, how do you counter at start Mecca Timmy followed by cyborg Kenny followed by toxic? That's an ez one phone destroyed even with my Zen cartman placed and waiting for enemy to reach me, sci fi is op at the moment compared to mystic, that's why every one is using it

Paranoia, First I am currently ranked #360 in legendary rank, and have a full collection with all of my legendary cards 2+ except 3 of them. Second to counter your scenario I would personally use Alien Queen Red, but there are many other ways to do it too like **** magic, Poison, Fireball, Power Bind, Enforcer Jimmy / rats, etc

Mystic's counter is Power Bind Jimmy, Herculies Clyde, Purify, Zen + NK for cyborg kenny, rats for cyborg kenny, just to name a few.
