Obviously changes were inevitable, and not necessarily for the better, as much as you'd like to believe (I.e. for the general public). I seriously doubt Ubisoft changed the look and gameplay because of bugs.

The TLDR is; My working theory was always that Jason Vandenberghe left, and with him went most of this dark & gritty vision of For Honor. Roman and Damien then remained, and has chosen to rely largely on the Reddit communities desires.
If I had enough ****s left to give, I'd start one hell of argument about why the Reddit community receives more attention than the meme-less forum crowd does.
I do agree it seems that Reddit users get more attention than the ACTUAL FORUMS... I wonder why?

Because Reddit makes more noise and is where gaming news outlets most often compile their sources from thus it is where the money is.

The forums are basically where the more die hard followers of For Honor reside, the folks who followed this game since it was introduced and were drawn in by it's initial promise of grittyness and realistic sword fighting. Reddit is the more mass market gamers who are into memes and consuming games like happy meals before moving on to the next game that generates some noise.

Roman and Damien apparently decided that if the game was to have a longer lifespan they would need to appeal to a more general audience like Reddit rather than a more niche audience like the people that wanted the game from those initial trailers. That's why the For Honor we got is arguably a much more dumbed down version of Jason's original vision and has been focusing more and more towards memes and spammable moves rather than the original concept of the fighting system being more like fencing and less cartoony.
