Just wanted to discuss my recent experience with Ubisoft support. I will start by saying this was a mostly positive experience, but I was dismayed by one point.
In the course of discussing my support case, I was informed by support that the developers had blocked access to the game from all jail broken and rooted devices, and emulators. Although I don't necessarily agree with this approach, the fact is that I play on a stock iPhone and this change won't prevent me from playing.
However I do also from time to time play on my Android tablet too, which is rooted. After receiving this e-mail from support I loaded up SPPD on my tab, and successfully played a PVP game and received the locker rewards following a win. This is a rooted tablet, so according to support should not even be able to play the game. I responded to support and advised them of this fact, and asked them if they would like any details about my device to identify why it was not blocked as expected.
Their response was simply that no, they did not require any information.
So yes I'm not sure where to go with this at this point - but if the developers are trying to place restrictions in order to stop cheating, but those restrictions aren't working, and support are not interested in gathering technical details to discover why this is not working, as users where do we now go?
I play on bluestacks (an android emulator) when my tablet has little or no charge (I don't use it to cheat, of course). I don't think there is much to do as players other than be harsher with the devs for outright lying to us, by stop spending in the game and giving it bad reviews (for example, in the google play store). If they don't do anything despite that then it is fair to assume that those actions don't really affect them.Originally Posted by lister_infiji Go to original post
My bet is that they keep things quite opaque for new (more hopeful) players that will spend money here and there, and that, collectively, such money is more than enough profit for they don't caring enough to make effective changes (besides the money that succesful/careful cheaters spend). It's sad but it's also very likely, given the behaviour of the devs. I hope I'm dead wrong about this, and that devs care at least enough to show that I'm wrong here with actual (public) evidence, rather than merely just saying I'm crazy (as many other people suffering because of cheaters).
The funny thing is that if they are right, and most problems with the game are not due to cheating, they are implicitly recognizing how bugged the game is, and how incompetent is their work on fixing it. Anyway, provided that people keep treating them as they are doing their best to improve the game (besides evidence to the contrary) no matter what, and keep spending money and giving good reviews despite the enormous amount of problems, the devs will have no motivation whatsoever to make the appropriate changes.
Perhaps, we sould become better digital consumers, making game developers more accountable for their bad work.
In this link it says that the game makes +34k dollars *daily*:

So I don't think they will be motivated to make any significant changes with respect to cheaters (less so if there are many cheaters spending a lot in the game, as the case might be). So if you encounter a lot of cheaters, I recommend that either a) you quit the game (if it is very frustrating to you), b) become a cheater yourself (not the option I would choose) or c) accept loosing against cheaters to some extent (as a probably inevitable part of the game).
I personally go from (a) to (c) and back depending on how frustrated I feel with the game at the moment (obviously, without spending more money in it).
Also, if you're interested, here is a Forbes' review of the game discussing the pay-to-win qualities of the game:

And here an article reviewing (quite succesfully, in my opinion) the cheating problem with the game and the inadequate way of the dev team to deal with it:

Regardless of how much money they do make, they have no way to quantify how much they are losing. I myself spent some money on the game when I first started playing. However since I've now reached a rank where literally about 50% of my opponents are cheating, I have stopped spending money and I will not spend any more money until this is resolved. And I have spoken to others who have done the same thing. And I would even go so far as to argue I am still 'spending' on this game - why? Well simply put time is a currency, one I value more highly than money, and due to the many many cheaters I am having to use more time than required simply to win PVP packs, so this is a cost to me and moreover a cost I do not accept and am not being asked for my permission before it is charged against me. From my point of view either they eliminate the cheating and then I will start spending again, or they continue to do nothing about it and I will just quit playing completely.
If they're not going to do anything to eliminate the PVP cheats, then at the very least let us earn our packs from PVE instead so those of us who enjoy games played fairly can still progress.
And back to the original point - and I'd love to hear an opinion from somebody representing Ubisoft on this - why is the block I was told existed on jail broken and rooted devices, and emulators, not working? And then when I report to them it is not working, why do they display no interest whatsoever in investigating why it is not working? I have a rooted Android tablet which can access and play the game with no problem, and I am willing to give some of my time to provide any technical details required about my device to resolve this issue, but Ubisoft are not showing any desire to resolve the issue based on the communications I have received.
I’m we’re you are at in the game. The cheaters are like every game for me. But what gets me more is the game breaking bugs too. Maiden Wendy I think it is has the bug where she won’t die. I have lost a few games because of this bug. Her life is gone. She goes down like she died and pops up 2-3 more times dealing damage and taking more hits. Other ones have done it too. They died and pop up right back up. The other bugs I got is one where a player didn’t register a hit. But the worst was the won that literally caused me a lost. I had hit a the player for the win, the player left before win popped up, but because enemies still move and attack I got hit with a bomb and it said I was defeated. Lol. The player was gone. His little crate destroyed. Lol
Between the bugs, the cheaters, and now the cards that are locked behind legendary ranks is killing a good game. I couldn’t wait to play this. But when I lose 5-6 games in a row because of the bugs or cheaters it gets frustrating. Ive been stuck at rank 42 forever. Just as I get a few wins I get the cheaters who just bombard me with constant enemies. I’ll put out 2-3 cards and then the opponent puts out a manbearpig, a pirate Clyde, dog poop, and 2 assassins. This last event was the worse. The cheaters were out in full effect. I dropped 3 ranks because I kept getting cheaters or bugs. I was trying again tonight to get to legendary rank to have a shot at the Visitors card because they said on the stream they want to keep it for legendary rank only.
I've recently ranked up and noticed ranks 40-44 have a lot less cheating than ranks 35-39. Just thought I'd mention that, but it's literally about 50% of people in 35-39 (especially 35-37) cheating.
Also I have a new way to deal with this issue. It's not exactly 'fair' on other people but I consider my actions as a peaceful protest against the developers not resolving the cheating. My biggest issue is the amount of time I lose trying to get my PVP packs because of games vs cheaters. So my new approach is simply that as soon as I start losing a game, I will quit it and start another one. In this way at least I'm not wasting so much of my time. I realise my approach isn't exactly fair when some of the people I'm playing against will not be cheating, but all I really have to say to that is Ubisoft please get rid of the cheating from this game and then I will cease my peaceful protest.
