My Far Cry 5 problems... (need feedback)

So here's the deal, I've never posted here, but want some insight from serious people. I played Far Cry 3 on 360, loved it. Didn't play Far Cry 4 or Primal.

This Far Cry 5 looks very very interesting, and fun... and we finally get a game in the USA. There's only 1 problem...

I happen to be a Christian. Am I a perfect Christian? NO. Do I believe in God and that Jesus Christ is my savior and that he died on the cross so we can be here today and live? YES

So to Far Cry 5. The game looks interesting, looks amazing, looks like something I'd enjoy. But I have my issues. Part of me sees it as them making fun of Christianity overall and mocking God... and just conservatives.

I'm not trying to start a fight or a flame thread here. These are all serious thoughts by me. So part of me sees this game as a middle finger to Christians in their own twisted sort of way.

Then... MOST of me sees this as a fun video game with some religious angles. As there's been several people over decades that have taken the bible and twisted it around to their own bidding. Has it been confirmed the book with the weird symbol is a "bible" yet?

I could probably explain myself better, but I think you guys get the point of my post here. I'm a conservative Christian that is hesitant to play this game because it might be mocking the very values I believe in.

I'm not one of those insane people that beats people for their beliefs or starves people or whatever lol. I'm a normal, Christian. I cuss sometimes. I sin. I fall short, but I do very much believe and pray everyday.

I really want to play this as it is so compelling to me. It won't change my beliefs, it just looks like a lot of fun. I don't know I hope this came across the right way.

Anyone else feel the same way? I'm expecting a lot of "don't like it... don't buy it" posts and "get over it"...

the typical liberal stuff. I'm looking for insight and other people's thoughts. 70% of me wants to buy this and play it for what it is... which is a super interesting game. It seems like Josepth has taken the "bible" I guess to extreme interpretation and is doing wrong by it. And I don't think Ubisoft is targeting Christians really. But maybe they are?

I do know 1 thing... if this game had anything about muslims in it... people would flip....

You say you've made the point? I only see claims but nothing connecting the dots. Explain which part seems to be offensive and why.

    I don't understand your post.

I think my post is fairly self explanatory. Thanks for your input.

If your post is just about feelings and no fact then i'm sorry but we probably can't help you out.
You should point to us which part of Far Cry 5 seems to be making fun of christianity or mocking God and we'll go from there.

Basically, you're asking if will you be comfortable enough with the content of this game without it offending you. No one can answer that for you but I will give you a quick and easy solution.....

Don't buy the game. Seriously, don't buy it or at the very least wait until it's released and you can see more in-game footage, reviews , etc. that will help you decide if this is a game that's right for you. Imo, you're overthinking this whole thing.

Having said that, the obvious stereotypical references to backward, Jesus loving, patriotic 'mericun, gun-toting rednecks isn't lost on me. I'm also not naive enough to dismiss the fact that gaming companies will choose content that reflects their own bias. We see it in TV shows, movies, the media, comedy, etc. You just need to decide whether you want to take a stand and vote with your wallet or simply buy the game, enjoy it and let any political leaning innuendos simply roll off your back.

I posted the following in another thread like this so I will simply cut and past here since I believe it applies.....

Two things I never discuss when I'm drinking or trying to relax..... Politics and religion.

Two things I never discuss on forums, social media or with strangers...... Politics and religion.

What I will say is that games are not immune from bias as with most forms of entertainment. However, as long as the developers are not resorting to sententious rhetoric or blatantly pushing an agenda that I happen to disagree with, I can usually look past any allusions of partiality on provocative subjects if the game is still something I'm interested in.

That's the issue. If people resort to feelings instead of confronting opinions on which parts "seem" offensive then we're going nowhere..

Off the top, I've gotta agree with Vira, you've not made it clear how you think they are making fun of christianity or mocking god, you just claimed that it was. As someone raised with christian values myself I don't see anything of the sort, though my level of 'christianity' is dubious at best. I see it as a cult that has veiled themselves in christianity as a means to manipulate those in the area into joining. The book with the weird symbol is Joseph's own bible though they've not really detailed it much. Probably a conveniently edited bible that emphasizes ideals that further his rhetoric & omits the things that would contradict the ideas he's espoused. It's really just about interpretation I suppose, and ultimately it's something you'll have to decide for yourself if you think the game will conflict with the things you've decided to believe in.

I'm not a religious person, I went to church because I was forced to, and when I was no longer forced, I no longer went. I struggled with religion for a long time, but many of those values are ingrained in me. However I don't see the bible as a historical text at all, and now I think interpreting the biblical stories as literal history is the great folly of christianity, but thats just me. You were a lot more rational & cool about posing these questions than other people in the past, so that's refreshing, even if you did end the post with an unnecessary dig at liberals. I hope you're able to come to a decision, and if you buy the game I hope it doesn't end up being something you feel insulted by, but I don't think anyone here could really predict whether or not that will be the case. Good luck.

I'm reading the game as mocking murdering religious cultists, so people with a mainstream religion or none should be good.

And I would imagine that is a Bible being shown, because a cultist will twist it.
Just as a Quran would be repurposed by extremist islamists, same principle.

I think that in the trailer Joseph Seed starts piling up pages and makes his own scripture.

    yep..

This post is going as I intended it to..

    Sucks too.

I just wanted to know what others thought of it. If you think this game doesn't at least border on possibly offending Christians... then you're crazy.

I don't know it does. My post is mostly well thought out.

And to that Italy dude... I believe in this.

The left: Where feelings rule facts and victims are heroes...

So your entire feelings ruling facts thing makes no sense.

You are attempting to make this thread about something entirely different. Don't twist it around.

I'm just saying from my point of view the game looks awesome, but with my being Christian, it somewhat makes me hesitate.

If you have to ask why... or question why I even made this thread... then you are truly lost into an illusion of yourself.
