OK, I have these two weapons and seem to keep stumbling on to them time after time. Heck, where did the House go in all these drops? My question is this. What are these two rifles made for? Sentry, Hunter, Dead Eye. (Which I have never had the need for those three builds) Just curious if ANYONE uses these two rifles at all.
I tried them.
I was decidedly underwhelmed.
I guess they're made for Deadeye. MAYBE Sentry. But being semi-autos, they burn through ammo really quickly and kick all over the place. And their damage isn't really anything special. As mckrakinn noted to me, MDR seems to have them beat.
I certainly get more mileage out of Sentry running an M700/MDR combo. AND I don't worry about running out of ammo after a couple of fights (or....ever...with zero ammo bonuses on the gear).
My personal feeling is that they could get a lot more mileage out of The Devil and The Heel if they made ONE of them into an MMR. More variety, shared special talents, difference uses for different builds. Plus, there IS no MMR exotic.
There's that. Part of it could just be myself not practicing enough.
I mean, when I started playing the game, sniping was nigh-impossible for me, and that's coming from an often-sniping background in Mass Effect Multiplayer. These days, with a bolt-action I'm headshooting running NPC's and occasionally popping Rogues in the head with it as well.
So maybe if I practiced with the semi-autos, I'd get more used to the wacked-out recoil.
I can totally see the Devil and Heel being made for Deadeye, though.
I long for a sniper build in this game. I just cant make it happen anymore. No matter the gun, none of them do enough damage since 1.8 dropped for PVP. PVE is still ok. Ive never understood the hate from the devs on the snipers in this game and thought maybe it was changing since they created two new exotic snipers but NOPE! All sniper builds are garbage IMO and thats just sad.
Looking at their talents, I would say Sentry would get the most out of them. But then Sentry doesn't necessarily work best using them; MDR is much better at stacking marks. In contrast, Deadeye would not benefit from the headshot bonuses, leaving the set rather underwhelming in contrast to other loadout options. If either gun was turned into an AR however, that would change everything. >.>
It's possible I might do okay with them if I practiced like mad to get used to the vicious recoil.
But the high rate of fire and lousy sniper rifle ammo is a huge problem.
I have not really warmed to the idea, myself. Their damage is just too low, frankly - it doesn't feel like it would be worth the investment of time and fiddling with them to work out what might be best.
I'm sure someone could, though!
My Carbon punches out 1.2 million headshots right now on Elites, with Sentry, on the first shot - goes all the way up to 2.8 million when I've marked someone up.
For giggles, the wife and I did Lincoln Tunnel (I love that one) and I played sniper the whole way while she threw out murder-orbs and incineration-turrets. The shooting gallery half-way through (right before the tunnel itself) was insane, and I one-shot Finch at the end, all the way from the sniper area. Bam, dead.
I wasn't even elevated compared to him, I think! ^_^
