    Dual wielding?

    Hey all,

I've searched for this feature since Ubisoft had taken over the franchise. Is there going to be the ability to dual wield weapons in this Far Cry? I can't find one bit of information related to this anywhere, but I've been wondering.

    Thanks!

I don't think so. If there is it's not been shown so far, but I think it's unlikely. Ubi had dual wielding in the instincts games, but FC2 & onward dropped it.

I figured. I knew I remember it back in the day long ago in the pre-Ubi franchises before using Dunia Engine 2. I just figured if the semi truck has the ability to fire from dual positions that they could add it to the first person character themselves.

I did like using duel silenced pistols in Predator but duel P90s were too powerful, it was fun for multiplayer but as already mentioned looks like they closed the door on that and Far Cry 2's weapons jamming and blowing up.

Would be great if 5 had dual wielding with any combination of side-arms. Imagine the carnage with the thumper grenade launcher in one hand & the mac-11 in the other!

Never been a fan of "dual wielding" as I've always preferred a more "realistic" approach vs. Hollywood. I know FC leans to the latter but glad to see they don't go too far for my taste.

Once all the targeting and other aids are turned off, it can still provide a decent "tactical shooter" experience. Things like DW would just take more away from that. .....for me at least.

Would it being an option somehow negatively affect that experience if you just don't use it?

As an option? Maybe, as long as it didn't negatively impact the balance of gameplay. Its just something I always found really hokey but if Ubi felt the need to go that route, there's not a whole lot I could do about it.

Just saying I'm glad it was something they steered away from. .....personally.

Really what I'm asking is how would dual wielding negatively impact gameplay balance? Imagine the game as it is now, but with the option to hold 2 side arms at once, how is that any different?

The introduction of DW would likely require some level of balancing. How that would be implemented, whether it would only affect the DW weapons, all sidearms, the damage model, etc., I really don't know.

What I'm saying is that as long as the introduction of DW doesn't upset that balance for other weapons (e.g. making sidearms less effective, increasing bullet resistance/sponginess, etc.), I don't personally see a problem with it. In other words, I'm ok with it being implemented (although I have zero interest in it) but I wouldn't want to see it impact the current weapon / damage model if that is the case.

Either way, it's all sort of a moot point. The reason I'm glad they steered away from it is simply because I prefer games that tend to lean more toward realism than Hollywood when it comes to gunplay. I expect FC these days to lean to the latter but I don't mind when they take steps toward the former. Elements of FC5 seem like that was the route they were going which is partly why I'm interested in it.
