How difficult is it to step in For Honor?

So I got For Honor back when it released, and the dropped the game soon after. I used to be pretty average in 1v1 games and okay in team games. Now I'm really tempted to get back into it, but I'm afraid that it won't be enjoyable.

Meaning, a lot of the playerbase left the game, and from what I've seen, the majority of players are really hardened veterans, meaning that it will be really hard to either get matches, or I will get stomped for the first month because I don't know how to play anymore and you don't learn a lot form being stomped.

Is there still a solid amount of new players or do I really need to step up my game if I want to enjoy the game?

Still Lots Of noobs playing on Playstation 4 atleast and if ubisoft manage to fix the matchmaking it should be fine for you. Lots Of reworks now when season 5 starts so all players need to learn the new movesets and get used to the parry changes.

Contrary to popular myth, there was never ever any mass exodus from For Honor. Today, the game still averages about 1 million unique players a month, and there's always a steady stream of new players coming in.

I'd say it's definitely safe to jump back in, though I'd wait another 4½ hours. Later today a very large game update will drop, changing several heroes and many core game mechanics. It'll be like a hard reset even for seasoned players, so you might feel on more stable ground when we're all re-learning the game together.
Also, launching later, during Season 5 (starting today) the developers will introduce a new, much more in depth training mode for both new, and veteran players. So even if you get back into the game, and find yourself struggling, you'll have several different ways to improve your game.

I’m gonna say pretty safe to jump back in, i mained raider for an age then stepped away, just came back in January and picked up orochi to play with. Lots of early players in duels - spotted quite a few in brawl too, I take it much easier on them so they can get the hang of returning serve, hopefully didn’t feel patronising 😉 likewise many have done the same for me.

dominion will probably be your worst nightmare but both duel and brawl you’ll find some easy going players who enjoy the fight, and are nice enough to teach you the ropes.

I’d also say your timing couldn’t be better, if you jump in now and get back up to speed, when the servers kick off you’ll be ready to enjoy them!

Well, judging from personal experience. I played a lot after release in February 2017. I stopped after maybe a month. Then I got back with the release of Season 3 (the Highlander lured me back

The first week or so was a struggle. I found out I forgot a lot and had to learn most things again. But it kept better and better and I have not stopped since. If you want to get back, try it. A lot of things improved since launch with more improvements to come.

And as Tundra said, today Season 5 starts and it changes a lot of fight mechanics. This might be the best time to come back because everybody will be on more equal footing. Even the veterans will have harder time because they will have to adjust their playstyle to the new changes.
And servers coming soon (19th for PC

I won't lie, it will depend on your character/s of choice. Some are much easier to pick up than others.

Regardless, I'd replay the campaign and do a few private games vs bots till you feel comfortable with whichever character/s you like. You'll be playing online in no time.

This. Get a feel for movement and basic attacks in the Campaign. Then go for level 1-2 Bots. When you can beat Level 2 Bots constantly - you are ready for PvP. If you can beat Level 3 Bots constantly - you will be a badass in PvP.

you should be fine. you'll have to get used to dodging unblockables and with todays changes you can't rely on GB after parrying someone, but that's about it. be patient vs assassins or you'll get run over.

I can usually beat level 3 in 1v1, but I don't feel like badass in PvP at all

Its never easy stepping into a fighting game a year into its life. You need to accept that youre going to get your *** kicked, and that its up to you to persevere.

I remember stepping into sf4 nearly 4 years into its life span, it was brutal.
