I'm hearing from a few sources that as our character will be customisable they will also be a silent protagonist.
Is this actually right ?
If so As I long time can of the series I think this is a stupid move for the franchise.
You look at FC2 characters lack of personalities compared to Jason, Ajay and even Takkar, their characters and personalities gave those games some depth and made you care about the roles you where portraying.
I understand what's added by the customizing of your character but it doesn't outway what's lost if your character has no personality at all
????
Hi there!
That's correct, you'll be playing a silent protagonist.
I do get what you mean about other leads in the series; but I think there are advantages to both styles of protagonist. Both go for different kinds of immersion.
In the case of FC5, this method makes the player character more of a representation of yourself, allowing you to project your own personality onto them.
I think it's an interesting choice, to be honest.

Thanks CJ for your reply, yes I do understand both sides of the "coin" however when do we stop removing things from far cry that make it far cry and start becoming like the other FPS open world games available,.........anyways I still look forward to it but it seems a shame to depart from the current style of immersion and loose a little bit of the brand's soul.
Cheers
There are proponents in both camps. Personally I'm with you & prefer voiced protagonist, but there are a number of other members who prefer the silent ones they can more easily project themselves into. I dislike mute protagonists because it makes interactions with NPCs and the dialog within that interaction take the lack of character response into account, so the dialog suffers. If the main character, the person driving the narrative forward, is incapable of communication, the narrative is going to be negatively impacted by that, you simply cannot tell as compelling a story with a mute protag in my estimation and that is why I take issue with it. That said, it's not a dealbreaker level issue for me, I'll still thoroughly enjoy the game no doubt, but I definitely prefer experiencing a character's journey vicariously...
Yeah not a deal breaker at all but.....it just puzzles me why you would go backwards from something that was introduced in earlier incarnations to improve the users experience and to fuel the overall story immersion and developement only to remove it later and revert back ......to me it's going to add hit and miss risk factor that doesn't need to be there to begin with.....
If they get it wrong and the story is not up to par then it will suffer immensely and the exposure will magnify as you will have no protagonists personality/performance and/or character interactions as a back up to plug the holes or carry it through........
Seems like a bit of a risk in my opinion lets hope they get it right...........I just have this nasty feeling this is the reason why your offered FC3 in the season pass and if this indeed reigns true that would be sad.......as the Far Cry series over the years has always been a solid product you could guarantee your hard earned dollar on to deliver
Anyways back to wildlands for now, wildlands.......wonder how that would have come across if the main characters didn't talk....hmmmm..(at least you wouldn't have to hear the ghosts banter over and over again)
This seems like a move in the wrong direction silent protagonists are rarely memorable characters and do little to help with making an interesting story or having a good character arch when they are silent, being able to create a character should not come at the cost of losing a voiced protagonist ffs.
I don't see how selling a story driven game with a silent protagonist is a good idea financially or story wise, but you do you Ubi. .....it seems more and more like you guys care less about longtime fans of the series and more about the casual market because I really can't see any longtime fans wanting this change, just imagine if Uncharted 4 had decided to go with a mute protagonist what do you think that would do to the franchise? .....maybe put the choice up for discussion next go around?
At the least it could have been more like FC2 where one had a few options to choose from, but it in this case they could still have been a voiced protagonists with proper backstories and meaningful character development. The choice for a mute protagonist seems like a substantial misstep in My opinion.
I think people should give it a chance. I never played far cry for their "in depth" main character. Aside from grunting expressions and questions they ask other NPCs i never got attached to them. Let me give you an example. I've always loved the Fallout series where the character you play as is always mute. The moment they make a voiced character in Fallout 4 people don't like it. What i tend to focus on is the rich story, characters and vast world to explore and diaries you read. That is what tells the story. I understand that people like a pre set protagonist but try it out. It might surprise you and end up liking it.
Honestly some of my favourite game protagonists have been silent so this doesn't bother me at all
I especially hate when a game lets you make your character and they say something so out of character to how you have been playing
that's one of the reasons some people didn't like fallout 4 it didn't really effect me since I always play a morally good character but for those who wanted to play another way it apparently was a problem
I mean far cry 2 had a few protagonists who were all silent and the game managed to still have a pretty decent story
I'm also sure that some would agree it's easier for theme to immerse themselves into the role of the protagonist when they don't talk
If they were going to add a voiced protagonist the only way I could see it working is to have branching dialog like the first few mass effect games
