Yes. Quit a lot.
Sometimes. not THAT often.
Not really.
There's a leaning feature?!?
One of the greatest innovations FC3 brought to the FPS world "for ME" was the ability to lean and peak around and over cover.
This automatic feature was great - I am even not sure if leaning around a corner in FC3 and FC4 actually helped make the player less vulnerable, but to me it was useful for other reasons.
not only it contributed to my immersion and feeling like im acting like a true fighter but it was also useful to me in getting faster aim where i was aiming the last time i fired around cover and also in peaking out much quicker and with great control than manually walking.
I havent seen proof that FC5 still has that in. I think it does because FC5 runs on the same game engine and the "Rise of the weapon animation" that would indicate you could lean is still in the game, from what i've seen in the gameplay vids, but i havent seen anyone using this.
So two questions -
1) Does anyone know if this feature is still in FC5?
2) The poll asks if you used this mechanic in FC3 and FC4 (and in other games that has it, like COD, BF, Wolfenstein, FO4 etc)
The feature is still fully intact in the game but there really isn't much footage of it in action because very few people really understand the mechanics of it so far as I can tell. I honestly don't take as much advantage of it as I could. There was a guy on the forums a while back who was super into it and thought it was the best feature about FC (I'm more of a takedowns fan myself).
Anyway, yeah, the cover mechanic, leaning/ peaking system is still in, if you watch any notable amount of gameplay footage on youtube you can see that it works the same way, but none of the players really utilize the mechanic...
I loved it.
very useful. makes leaning out of cover, back in, and then out again a more accurate manner since you sorta know where you will aim once you lean out, because it will be the same pixel you aimed at when you leaned in.
I just cant tell if it mitigates the chances of being hit. i wish there was a way to convery to the player "That shot hit the wall in front of you and would've hit you if you werent leaning.
Since FC doesnt use a virtual body (like the cryengine games or even wolfenstein) and all the player is is a camera with two hands... so what is it that really "hides" behind the cover if nothing exists but the camera and hands that actually peaks around the cover?
Well in FC5 I believe they have added a body model in the game, so we're no longer simply a disembodied camera. I agree though they should do a bit more to convey how effective the cover is being, even simply in the form of some dust & debris effects being visibly kicked up from the cover you're behind...Originally Posted by topeira1980 Go to original post
have you seen a player looking down and seeing his body and legs??Originally Posted by HorTyS Go to original post
FC games usually create a virtual body only when driving, climbing or even sliding (sprint to crouch), but the rest of the time - no body beneath the camera.
it WILL be interesting if a true body will be in the game, even though in so many cases it isnt necessary. however in FC5 you have character customization, which i have no idea what is that good for if you cant see yourself in 3rd person ever, but we'll see.
and yeah, debris and sound effects of bullets hitting your cover is a good idea. FC's cover system was better than the other games. mostly because it allowed you to lean farther if you tried to aim deeper behind the cover, or lean less if your angle was shallow. the only thing i wish the peaking system would allow us to do it peak with only our head. not by aiming nor by blindfiring. Homefront:TR does that and it's usefull as heck... sadly only when peaking up behind low cover and not left and right, which dont have any leaning system whatsoever.
that is a semi good point.Originally Posted by Viragoxv535 Go to original post
just because you can see your coop partner's body mesh doesnt mean he is "using" this mesh as calculation for hitbox.
I mean, we dont know how the game calculates the hitbox. it probably doesnt have anything to do with the actual model.... so both my point and yours about wether the AI hits the player or not valid. :-P
as far as the game goes, one player can look at his coop partner and see a black man, and the other player can look down on his body and see the lower half of a frog. anything's possible in a game, so its not a valid way to judge.
creating a virtual body is not like using the same model and animation that you can see in a 3rd person perspective. its requires different animations and maybe even different mesh so it looks better from 1st perspective. this is why it took so long for GTAV to come out with a 1st person mode - it takes a lot of work to create a first person models and animation etc.
only wolfenstein 2 uses both a leaning feature like FC and is also a virtual body and the peaking mechanics in that game are atrocious. horrible. unuseable. not that it has anything to do with wether it uses a virtual body or not. just an anacdote.![]()
Correct. I didn't think about that possibility.Originally Posted by topeira1980 Go to original post
