When pottering along on the surface looking for the enemy, don't be wasting your time on the bridge with some bino's....

Simply go into the command room and raise the observation periscope'hey presto,an instant crows nest'!

The U-boat Commanders Handbook specifically says NOT to do that. Your outline looks too much like a submarine it says.

Anyway...I think you mean to climb it like Americans did and not look through it because the wave action would be too much to see anything.

I believe that is the perfect way to be spotted at once.

In the other hand, to rise it only to watch from the bridge level can add a watcher without having to go up the bridge, and this can mean some seconds difference when a plane attacks you. Don't you agree?

I was joking chap's,but i'd had meant to look over the horizion with it,to see there mast's before they saw you!!!.
The idea about the aircraft is good though!

As a person new to subs and sub sims, would it be possible to dive to periscope depth, while running but bring the periscope up slowly and only poke it out the water about a foot. In the hope its not as visable or would there be to much waves stopping this from working? Plus wouldn't the scope make wash which would end up making you visible anyway, unless you were dead stop.
