tl;dr : Altering the appearance of a piece of gear using a database containing all available skins.
Hey,
This is a pitch for an idea that I’ve come up with that would give us a whole new way to change the looks of our equipment (weapons, armour, etc).
NB – It’s a little long-winded, but I believe that this might interest a whole lot of people, therefore, I strongly encourage you to bear with me till the end.
Without further ado…
During character customisation, when selecting a piece of gear we have the option to change its looks (‘change look’). In the spirit of changing aesthetics, I envisage a second option, one that would allow us to apply visuals from a database of all the skins available in-game.
Thanks to such an option it would be possible to choose the visuals of any piece of equipment within your current armour tier. For instance, a Warden with a reputation/prestige of 0 would only have access to the ‘aesthetics’ of common items (grey), whereas a Raider with a reputation of 6 could pick anything up to and including heroic (purple).
This wouldn’t at all eliminate the incentive to continue levelling up, as players would only be able to see equipment corresponding to their prestige. All other equipment of higher tiers would be hidden to them.
The purpose of this option would enable us to avoid opening pack upon pack, at 500 steel a time just to at last get something we like the look of. That said, packs would remain essential, given that this is purely about looks of an item and nothing to do with its stats.
It would of course cost more to change looks using skins from the database than it would if you were applying the skin of a piece of gear that you already possess. This seems only logical since we would be able to choose any item from the database, again, depending on your prestige, instead of solely those that we might have in our inventory.
Obviously, the higher the rarity of the piece of gear, the greater the cost.
Prices would also vary based on the rarity of the item the aesthetic of which you wish to apply. For example, say you have a reputation 8 Nobushi and you want to give your helm the appearance of a common item (don’t ask me why), that skin would be a lot cheaper than the skin of a legendary helm.
Starred equipment would naturally be more expensive than non-starred equipment.
If you made it to the end please let me know whether you loved or hated my idea and your reasons for doing so.
Cheers!
Hey. Just read your post and I 100% agree with this. This kinda reminds me of Destiny (I hate this game). In Destiny, there was a little shop where you could buy exotic weapons but you could only buy them if you actually find them. So, say you find the exotic, it'll become available to buy in the shop. I like your idea. The only thing is, I don't think it should cost steel to change the look, it should cost salvage. But if you really want it to cost steel then they should lower it. Right now, I'm an Rep 21 with Orochi. If I want to change the look of my gear, it cost like 300+ steel I think. That's as much as a crate right there. I think it should be lowered a lot. So say, 10 for grey gear, 20 for blue, 30 for purple, 40 for yellow and 50 for light blue. Then starred are like 55 or 60. I know it might seems very low but if I were to change the look of all 6 pieces of your gear at the same time, all priced 300+ steel, it would cost 1800 steel. That's a lot of damn steel lol. But yeah this is a great idea man!Originally Posted by tephamelie Go to original post
Thank you for your response!
Unfortunately, I can't see them going with a price so low in terms of steel. One thing they could do though would be to set the cost for this option, when applying skins to base items of the same rarity, at the same level as the 'change look' option.
For example, a rare (blue) tier skin would cost 200 steel, the same as it would for the standard changing of looks on a rare item, where a legendary (green) skin would cost something in the region of 450 steel.
I've never played Destiny, but the fact that something similar has been done before and was seemingly well received greatly helps our cause.
We can only hope that Ubisoft will give this post a read! Once again, thanks a lot for your contribution. Hopefully it'll prompt more players to do the same, increasing the likelihood Ubi will pay it some attention![]()
Hello, thanks for posting this text. I agree with your suggested concept, and I actually wrote a similar thing before. I'll quote myself what I wrote:
Needless to say, there are design and customization caveats with this game, that we can only hope to address and solve if we target the very core of the framework around which For Honor has been built: the F2P MMO system, which is dominated by RNG.Scavenger crates are a prime joke. The whole RNG loot system is a joke. It shouldn't even exist in the game. We should get Steel, XP and Salvage per match, that's it. No RNG loot, no 'no loot found' screens. All loot is accessible via Blacksmith Shop (which takes the place of 'Scavenge Gear' in the menu), where you can view and purchase gear and weapons according to which tier you are. All tiers are viewable but you may only purchase/craft/forge gear that matches your tier, or lower tiers should you wish to. Primary currency for the Blacksmith Shop is Salvage, not Steel. And no more of this Change Look crap. If you wish to modify a blade's appearance, you can 're-forge', at an additional cost of Salvage, and minimal Steel cost. You only unlock available appearances based on what you purchased/crafted/forged on your account. Which are then saved in a 'journal' of sorts and can be referenced to at any time. And you may apply any appearance from any tier provided you purchased/crafted/forged that specific appearance before.
Re-forging isn't limited to appearance; you may re-forge if you wish to alter gear stats too. And you may 'refine' to augment a specific stat, at additional Salvage costs.
And if they absolutely can't get rid of scavenger crates even if the above system gets implemented some time in the future (lol one can dream), then the scavenger crates should offer Steel and Salvage.
For Event Gear, like the Frost Wind weapons, they will have their own tab in the Blacksmith Shop menu, which then disappears after the event ends, and they cost more Salvage and a bit more Steel to craft/forge (they cannot be purchased), and they also require completion of specific event orders that get handed out during the event.
I think this is not a good idea as it eliminates all the satisfaction of finding a cool-looking piece in a chest or in a match. I actually like to see what I found after playing a match in dominion. Moreover, it takes away also the concept of rarity of one item. If everybody of that rank can just choose that skin, how can I be proud of having that special blade?
