What is "Quitlock"? and how does it give an unfair advantage?

In today's Developer update from ThatDarnSteve,

He mentioned the developers were trying to combat the practice of using "Quitlock"

"If you are a Legendary player, you will also notice after this update that when players attempt to Quitlock you, they will now receive a loss, and lose ELO rank. We currently have a list of players who have systematically abused this functionality, and are determining the best way to deal with those players. If you have done this, my recommendation is that you stop immediately as this may be factored in in your favor."
    .

I searched the entire forum, and the only use of the term "Quitlock" was from today's developer post.

I have several guesses as to the meaning, but I'm hoping one of the moderators explain this term and how it is used for personal gain (Just in case I (we) should modify our playing practices.

Thanks in advance to any Ubi employee who takes the time to respond. (Hope to see you on Twitch tonight)

    According to Whiterossy on Reddit:

"Quitlocking is when you instantly force close the app or turn off your internet connection when you can see who the opponent is. I must admit I used to do this once a week or so, when I get matched against a top 5 player. It was physically impossible to win...This only works in the first few seconds before the match even begun, everything after that should be fine. I can say with certainty you will not be punished for leaving early if the match has already started, so you should be totally fine ."

It's a way to not lose rank against someone you know/suspect is better than you.

Hello everyone! Quitlocking is when a user closes the application right after they see the opponent's name. This currently does not count as a loss, so players are using it to get more favorable matches and force the other person to go back into matchmaking.

Systematic abuse of quitlocking is frowned upon as unsportsmanlike conduct, and will result in a loss after the next update on February 8th. If a player quits after the match starts, that does not count as quitlocking, because the other person just gets an easy win. I hope that helps!

Ubidomz his newest excuse to justify the broken matchmaking.

    Ubidomz you are smarter...
If you fix the broken matchmaking that matches us with people 4 levels above us no one would quitlock.

What a pathetic excuse to justify the broken matchmaking.

I might not be in legendary but I have watched them play on youtube.

Top 10 get matched up with rank 1000+.

Once again you dont know how to fix such a simple issue ubidomz.

No quitlock would happen if the matchmaking was fair.
