I have never been invited to any PTS, so I can only depend on hearsay of what these sets will actually do. Since the release of gear sets I have usually gotten everything leaning towards SBs. So I easily was able to adjust to those archetypes in the game. Now lasts night I was talking to a friend and he was so excited that my sets were being released so we could get back into the grove of the way we have usually played.
Thing is I'm feeling it. Skills have been nerfed to death to appease the PvP crowd, SB players coming out of the woodwork are stating that the 6pc sets are a waste. and I am just not seeing a reason to waste my time farming for something that will take up valuable spots in my stash.
Can anyone give a valuable argument why this GE is even worth doing?
Hunter set? Blah
FC? Blah
Tac? Except possible one trick pony with sticky. Blah and I am sure Sticky will be nerfed when that's all you will see after a couple of days and players will have their sets complete.
Alpha? Has some potential, but will it be OP enough to run with Strikers, Pred, and Nomad? Or will it be blah in comparison.
I wasn't in the PTS, so feel free to give any input that you have.
Tactician will do nothing for your skills but it will let you put on some firearms or stamina without giving up any skill power. I'll like it but I'm not particularly excited about it.
Firecrest is crazy fun in PvE but still not really viable in PvP since the fire bullets don't work against players. But it is crazy strong in PvE.
I didn't try Hunters.
Alpha Bridge...just a stupid idea. No ult that you can use on demand. Automatic ults don't apply to team mates. Team mates ults don't apply to Alpha Bridge. Utterly ruined for PvP but kinda fun in a silly way in PvE.

As per the PTS, the 6 piece classified is useless. According to the numbers my Electronic Nomad 5 piece classified and Inventive chest outperforms the 6 piece Tac classified lol
Or are you waiting and praying for a Hail Mary buff months down the line?
I think a lot depends on how you play. I don't think skill builds are going to be viable in PvP but I think the Classified set will still bring more to the table in PvE. First off if you have an existing Tac build, replacing the four pieces with Classified pieces will only make it stronger. This together with the 5-piece bonus means that you can get the same amount of skill power running five Classsified Tac pieces with a Vigorous/Barrett's vest as you can running four regular Tac pieces with a Vigorous/Barrett's vest and an Inventive Backpack. The advantage of that would be that you would no longer need to be at full health to utilize all that skill power.
The verdict is out on Firecrest because it hasn't really been tested with the new PvP modifier. I've heard comments both ways but I'll reserve judgement.
I think Alpha will be an interesting set but not viable for PvP. I'll be looking for pieces of this together with Tactician to revamp some of my 1.7 Ninja bike builds.
mckrackin's post pretty much sums it up for me.
1. I would like Tactician just to beef up my normal skill build, MAYBE try a 5 piece.
2. I would like Firecrest to have fun running around burning NPCs.
3. Hunter's Faith...I'm pretty happy with my Sentry's Call as Support/Sniper.
4. Alpha Bridge could be 'fun'. I'm not saying effective, or good for a team, but fun to play for a bit.

2. I don't like extreme skillpower builds - they die too easy. Tac can boost itself to max skillpower so easily with so little skillpower base. That 60% skillpower boost already gets my tac build to waaaayyy over 500 K with just 310 as my base.
3. I'm a pulse operator/booster shotter maniac - I shoot my gun. I don't do bombs. My Tac has higher dps than my extreme crit build striker ( well not really. but very close to it).
