isn't it pretty simple? don't kill him while he is trying to throw a grenade while he is standing near truck (or it'll fall down and explode the truck) and don't stand near the truck(or they'll throw grenade at you)
my biggest concern with a convoys is that AI teammates starting to shoot at it even when everyone is dead.... but I've found a semi-solution: I use rebels to recon and sync-kill both drivers of the truck.
Love how you make it sound so simple. So, we're supposed to stand there, and wait to see what the AI is going to do? Great strategy.....Originally Posted by Slynx.Jewel Go to original post
Sometimes, your squad will verbally alert you, and 100% of the time, the nade has already been tossed, and you can see the red area where the nade lands, and 90%, you're right in the middle of the AOE. That's not the case with the convoys, or I wouldn't have posted this thread.
So, no >> it's NOT pretty simple.....
I've honestly never saw enemies in a convoy throwing grenades at me. they usually die even before they can leave the car...and if they are lucky to leave it I just snipe them from distance.
and I've never saw AI teammates alerting someone. because I always though that unless you give them direct order or enter engaged state - they are totally invisible to the enemy.
that's why I asked if it's simple. because in my experience it usually is.
EMP drone\HTI or MRS or SR1\Rebel scout\sync shot. - any of these methods usually help me to capture the convoys unharmed (I usually use scout+sync shot if I want to ensure that the truck will be full health, and just EMP is I don't care)
There is no automatic grenade, so if it happens often to you, it is because of your playstyle.
From my Tier 1 experience the easiest and fastest way to stop a convoy is to shoot it on distance. Listen to your squad to hear when you are about to damage it too much. Once it is damaged with the(SR 1 in singleplayer it takes 2 shots, roughly 20 MK17 bullets or MK48), everybody gets out and you can pick them up 1 by one or with syncshots. If you keep at 300+m there isn't even an alarm and it counts as stealth kills. Since you keep the distance the AI also doesn't damage it any further and there are also no grenades.
True. Even without the vehicle damage skill I could shoot down blackhawks on extreme with one 30-round mag from an AK47. I think you don't even need two clips of the abmysal P416. In other words, stopping convoys needs far less planning then people make it to blieve. Especially in Konai it is a delivered present for the player. But Mojocoyo and other places with great hills give those fast ambushes optimal conditions. It only gets messy if they get close to your shooting spot.
Getting the XP is not really my pet peeve, the fact that no matter how I shoot the truck, it is a hit or miss whether it will explode or not, there is no consistency in the actual gameplay or script of the situation (another thing I am sure the Devs did right in their vision and quest for maximum sales)... sometimes you hit the windshield a couple of times and it can either stop the truck (2 out of 10), other times the driver will just hit the NOS button and peel away from you (4 out of 10) or, and this is my favorite, the truck will start to catch on fire and eventually explode. This could also happen if you try to blow up the tires... either with sniper rifles or Assault rifles.
I have not tried the EMP or syncshot because since sniping is my thing, I wanted to do it my way, or the logical way, stupid me I know now so I only did it a few times and decided the aggravation was not worth the effort to try anymore.
There is consistency - at least in solo mode, since connection might screw up with synchronization. It always takes thes same amount of HITS to destroy the truck. I must admit I never paid too much attention to how the correct behaivor is, in the sense of I never tested if there are more sensitive hit zones - but I know for sure that you can stop a truck with 2 SR-1 hits every single time without destroying it.
Measuring damage and hit locations is tricky during combat, since your own squad might hit it, or the enemy itself, it might collide with something and all of these are doing additional damage. But I've also sniped the driver without blowing it up.
The whole vehicle damage system could have used a massive revamp with proper hit locations that make sense instead of this utterly simplistic model that is made for casual play, but never the less it is far from my biggest complaint in the game, since it is only a small part of the gameplay.
