Using references from IPMSStockholm.org and author/artist Tomasz Gronczewski, this set aims to reproduce the three P-47 Thunderbolts known to have been flown by Maj. Dunham, the most successful pilot of his unit and the second leading Thunderbolt ace of the Pacific Theatre.
The first aircraft, a P-47D-2 with the 342nd Fighter Squadron, is depicted in well-worn Olive Drab over Neutral Grey with the trademark theatre markings of white tail and elevators, plus white leading edge. The second, a P-47D-21, was assigned as Dunham's plane from the newly-formed 460th Fighter Squadron; it, like the rest of the aircraft of the 348th, has its anti-glare paint extended over the rear decking of the fuselage, over an otherwise natural metal finish, with prewar-style tail insignia. The final aircraft, Dunham's P-47D-23, had its upper fuselage and canopy painted in black; later in the war, thick bands of black paint were added to the fuselage and wings. Both depictions are included in this pack.
