Hey guys, I wanted to try something, but would like some of the community to help with it so we could have a more homogenous conclusion.
I'm finding that for most attackers in this game, any weapon that is automatic is used almost exclusively as such. I also fail to see there being any use in select fire since it doesn't actually change any recoil patterns. So, I was wondering what would happen if people played some games using the muzzle break on ARs and using only single shot. Are people landing shots more consistently, is it compromising your engagements more since you can't throw enough bullets even if more of them are landing, etc...
Let me know what people are experiencing when playing this way.
In the interest of simplifying things, I should stress that we only do this for rifles that it would be worth. For example, the IL85, R4-C, and F2 Famas would not really benefit since their recoil patterns are already pretty gucci. I'm thinking more along the lines of heavy hitting rifles with crap recoil patterns, like the 556XI and Commando rifles.
I'd like to make a suggestion to Ubi-Zoro though. Going back a couple seasons, the great rifle rebalance adjusted the re-centering times of all the rifles. I think it would beneficial to use the old re-centering times for rifles, but only when they are in semi-auto or burst firing modes; not used in full auto. This would make utilizing select fire have a purpose, but wouldn't make the rifles broken in the process I think.
As much as I want the C8 to be useful, there just is no saving that rifle.
Well...
The muzzle brake, where available, seems to have the most benefit for even automatic rifles. Fired in a 2-4 round burst, it will give you the best control and accuracy.
With how uncommon it is to use sustained automatic fire for me, I use the muzzle brake on every weapon that it is available. Even though I never use the select fire function on anything.
Of the testing I did, it does help, but only at extreme ranges. In mid-close range, where most of the shooting occurs, the tap firing loses too much from not putting enough bullets down range or loses to the superior accuracy and recoil of smgs.
The more I play around with precision shooting, the more I'm realizing that this game really is 100% oriented around full auto. I won't refer to it as spray and pray, since there is recoil management, but it is exceptionally perplexing that the meta has ended up in reverse of Ubi logic.
If I recall, Ubi intended to have give rifles the superior range and stopping power, while handing SMGs the better accuracy. But, it seems most engagements favor SMGs at range and rifles in close quarters. I'd like to suggest a headshot tweak, but I doubt there is a good way to apply it without significantly inhibiting the defending teams positions.
Does anyone have a good suggestion to reconcile this inconsistency? One idea kicking through my head was to make only certain defending weapons one shot the head (416, mp7, p90, slug shotty), making them serve a greater role in weapon choice, but still leave the remaining weapons deal significant damage when they score a headshot (maybe equivalent to 3 hits at point of contact).
Well both burts and single shot fire modes are pointless if you have trigger discipline, aka you tap fire manually
This way when you get in to cqb, you don't have to panic tap fire your weapon.
I do use muzzle brake on most of my weapon loadouts simply for this reason
Jägers 416c is amazing used this way
As side note (if my memory serves me right)
Back in Vietnam War Era. Quantity took over quality in training new soldiers and to combat the loss of efficiency in aiming, volume of fire had to go up. But you had to stop fresh recruits from mag dumbing, burst fire mode was forced so that compromise could be achieved between volume of fire and sustainability.
