I’m glad that a lot of FC5 footage became available and we get sense of what it will be like.
Must admit it’s very good looking game again! Hats off to Ubi how they cranked up their Cryengine even further. Scenery looks great and will treat to wander around.
Although the colour scheme is bit to similar to previous FC’s – hard and deep colours. So green (trees/grass) is réally green, water is deep blue same as the sky. Not many greys around like in the real world we live in. This sets the tone of the game -> despite the violate gunplay and dark setting of a violent cult, these colours makes the game playfull, positive and cheerful. Personally I was hoping for bit more dark and serious tone.Bit of a lost opportunity to make this FC more different from 3-4 were we also seen the hilarious mayhem already. Still find it very funny don’t get me wrong, but strengthened my feeling (which we all feared) I’ve seen it already before. This will probably be biggest criticism FC5 will battle against -> is it not too similar to FC3 and FC4?
My biggest wish though is option to remove the ‘godmode’, In other Ubi games like The Division we heard the term mention many time – bullet sponge. Well it’s also in FarCry games. This time around it is the player who is the sponge. Man, the hits you can take without dying, simple bandage and off you go! Even gunships have hard time killing you. The other God ability is you have is x-ray vision. You can see through walls, and notice almost everything. In SP/Coop I can take this, but really really hope not in MP. This is so lame!
Last suggestion to reduce the feeling of déjà vu -> reduce the cloning of enemies please! I understand that when you need to kill 20.000 of enemies till the end of the game not all can be unique. But please give us bit more variety. Maybe possible to change small things on them so they look less alike? maybe just their face or hair colour/type? So they don’t feel like anonymous gun fodder which they are.
Same goes for rest – sometimes less is more. On every corner the same white car with same bad guys. And how many helicopters does a cult have? Or how many Bull vs Bear fights can you see before you think – seen that before and dont even look anymore. Understand that when open world is this big you need to fill it, but copy-paste till there is same enemy on each corner is not best way imo. Maybe suspense and thrill is bigger when there are less enemies around? (I think so).
Also where are the citizens (not seen that many).
Hopefully most of my observations are unfounded because it’s a beta version we saw, and this early version was cranked up to get good humorous footage for the press?
So overall I'm not negative about the game or anything, but really I see room for improvement imo – lol
p.s. most looking forward to MP aspect of game. Hope it's announced soon cause we've seen enough SP footage imo.
Bit of a word vomit post, but some fair points made as well. The look of the game is an accurate re-creation of the area it's based on, not sure how much the tone of the narrative should really effect that. I'm sure they will pick appropriate settings & times of day for major story beats where the tone is of higher priority, but between missions the world should look authentic, regardless of the narrative's tone in my opinion. FC has faced what I would consider a disproportionate amount of criticism on the similarity of the FC games. I think there are more changes & improvements between them than many other sequels get, but the "copy/ paste" complaint is levied at them much more, seems weird to me, but I also haven't gotten sick of the gameplay really, so I guess it doesn't bother me as much as some.
FC has always had kind of bullet spongey protagonists. Hopefully the gameplay we've been seeing is with all the health upgrades. I still really don't like that they've done away with the bracketed health bar, but the issue is we're still able to absorb kind of a lot of damage when our health is depleted before the character actually dies. We should die when the health bar empties, not 5-10 shots after that... As to the x-ray / tagging, I have never been one of the haters on the tagging, the way I see it I'm able to reconcile it's existence, but now that we can tag targets without even line of sight I'm a little annoyed by it, plus the enemies are even way more visible through walls than before. If anything I expected them to nerf tagging but they've made it even easier. I think I'll be disabling it this time...Every game has room for improvement, and this game is no different, but yeah I still think the good outweighs the bad...
WTF? haha April fool's is months away...Originally Posted by Viragoxv535 Go to original post
Colour coordinationOriginally Posted by HorTyS Go to original post
Sure, that makes sense...for your living room furniture, but this is literally the first time I've ever seen people suggest a developer make a shooter game less colorful, because the idea behind it lacks legitimate justification by my estimation. The main complaint for shooters for years now was that they were all greys & browns, and now that we get a few lush vibrant games (that are accurate representations of the world they're set in) you're asking to return to something like that? To de-saturate that in order to suit the tone of the story would make very little sense in my opinion.Originally Posted by Viragoxv535 Go to original post
The story will not be being actively engaged with by all players at all times, so having a less vibrant, muted color palette that was deliberately made that way to 'fit the tone' of the story some players will only minimally participate in is kind of a lame decision I'd say. The look of the world should fit the tone when the tone is actively being conveyed. To make the look of the world fit the tone at all times even when players are just cruising around the world messing about with outposts or going fishing serves no purpose. The idea that the world should have a limited color scheme so that it is more in line with a specific tone (a tone we're really only vaguely familiar with at this point I might add) when said tone is really only relayed in specific short story beats to the player is one of the most absurd things I've ever read on these forums, I can't say I agree with anything about such a suggestion, it's ludicrous...
In all my years of being involved in online gaming discussions, never once did I expect to see an argument in support of a less vibrant, less colorful world that would make for a less accurate depiction of the setting...
violence happens in the real world at any place and time whether it is gloomy or not they can't make the game grey just because it is not a cheerful story montana is a lush and vibrant location violence and evil deeds taking place would not change that so the game should not depict it differently either
I do hope that there are deeper hud options so we can choose to have tagging but not to be able to do so thru walls and not be able to see the tags thru the walls so we can tune the game to work to our preferance
Well no it actually makes sense in every aspect of our lives. Videogames can make use of it to leverage immersion in a way. Nothing serious for me but it's a nice touch i think. The Metro series and Far Cry 2 are a proof of that.Originally Posted by HorTyS Go to original post
Exactly, use of colour plays big part of atmosphere in a game (or movie). Common trick.
Was hoping for bit more dark/serious tone than previous FC's, the cult theme is very suitable for it. Colour (as immersion effect) is a part of this.
From what I've seen they focus on humor, mayhem and explosions. So familiar to previous FC's.
Which is not bad ofc, but the game needs to change more imo if it want to shake the "feels to similar" criticism.
far cry 2 was brown because africa is brown the colors were not made to look different from reality to better set the tone of the gameOriginally Posted by Viragoxv535 Go to original post

like the other guy said the entire game should not have the same tone as the actual story so making the world all feel like a single tone is not the right action to take they can simply set the mood with lighting and effects when players are on the right mission like they did in far cry 4
to make the entire world look like a single mood or tone would garner criticism as well do you not think so
