Even on Perfect, IL2FB ran fine on my 1.9 TI4600 512mb Ram.
I just doubled my Ram for the benifit of another game but made no differance.
Last night played FB with my doubled ram and Casheman running and was quite pleased to see that FB was in fact using the extra Ram I had just bought, not that I noticed much differance mind.
As the mission went on, Casheman showed me that more and more of my gigabite of Ram was being used, especially when the enemy arrived and my available GB of Ram became used up.
What then happened is that I suffered severe Lag so that I could not engage in the dogfight, (whats the differance between lag and stutter anyway?).
Now this never happened to me when I was using half the ram, I still have the same area of hard drive reserved for virtual ram.
Can someone explain what happenes when you use up your ram and have to write to hard disk and once you have used up your ram, is there any benifit to the fact that you have used up 1 gb as opposed to 512mb?
I also installed the latest patch at the same time.

Stutter looks just like it the description sounds. There is a (or several or more) sudden hesitations in the progression of the game. Lag has to do with ping variance and makes the game look like you're playing Star Trek with planes "warping all over the place and what you are doing does not match what everyone else is doing in a time sequence.
As far as the additional RAM goes, it's nice, but the information is still backing up due to waiting on your CPU. This game is very CPU intensive. Please post your diagnosis!
http://www.mudmovers.com/tech/system.htm
and find out who made your motherboard and go to their website. Finger out what's the fastest CPU your motherboard will support. You are not just looking for a increase in MHz, you are looking (ideally) for more cache as well.
There is a tool that will help you finger out as much as possible about your motherboard and system. You can get it here...

Sounds to me like you may be using win98. Very bad with more than 512 ram.
FB should never use more than about 700 megs of ram and that includes whatever the OS is using.
Lets see your Dxdiag.

Well there it is Guy's, any comments most appretiated.
Funny enough, I just recently found out that the max my MOBO can use is 2.6 400fsb with double my existing cashe, they are getting quite rare but Iam waiting for delivery on one.
Cheers

The 2.6CPU should help a bit.
I think the main source of your stutters is SOUND. Your Santa Cruz sound drivers are WAY out of date.
Try upgrading your sound drivers and then reduce your sound Hardware accelleration to standard(one notch to the left). This should help immensily.
Good Luck!

Well I applied the above and it certainly helped, playing the same mission as before, at the point where I previously ran out of ram and got 4 or 5 second stutter, I now still had 96mb of ram, however, later in the mission, PC Booster, (not Cascheman after all), told me I had all 1023 of my ram available to me, which cannot be correct, I guess that I had used up all my ram again, and I then started getting stutter again, though not so bad, ie only half a second at a time.
When I exited FB, PC Booster still informed me that I had all my ram available and even when I hit the recover ram button, it still showed all 1023mb unused? Normally with just XP loaded it says 738 mb available.
What I have found is that when I launch FB and you get that trailer track launched, it takes up a lot of my ram that according to PC Booster I never get back, is there any way to disable that film launching as I only watched it for the first time and would rather have my ram for use in the game.
Iam wondering if something is wrong during the game where ram gets used for information but doesnâ't get freed for later when that info is no longer needed, hence my running out of 1023 mb ram?

Hi Steve, Iam afraid I cannot find IL2 Setup!
I can find Hardware Setup but looking at all the options I cannot see an option to uncheck the intro.
Can you talk me through it please?
Cheers

Go into your il2 folder and look for the icon with the hammer(il2setup) on it, click on that and it's on the bottom left corner.
