I think that the kensei could be made viable easily by giving him one move.
This move would be a side dash for a pommel strike/elbow strike. It doesn't have to deal any damage, but it should blind the opponent and possibly drain a little stamina and throw him/her backward (though the blind effect may be enough). After it landed, the kensei could start the chain finishers, just as he could after a throw. This attack should be as fast as the gladiator's punch.
I think that this move would give the kensei a chance to start his/her chainfinisher mixup easily without risking parries all the time. This move still can be dodged (and I think it shouldn't start the chain finishers on whiff), so he/she should still mix it up with other moves to be viable.
I think the forward version would be better, but dashing forward and pressing guardbreak is already in the kensei's moveset. It might work with different buttons, like forward dash+heavy.
I don't think that it would be broken, it doesn't guarantee you damage at all. It's the same with the gladiator's punches, they don't give you free damage, they just start a mixup. And they aren't coming from nothing, this move would have to hit to even start the mixup, and a simple dodge attack could beat it for guaranteed damage.
I'm not talking about pushbacks, I mean stuns that make you lose you UI and screen go black and white. Usually you have to eff up somewhat in order to get stunned. The Gladiator f.e. can stun you from "nothing", that is what I hate so much. Centurion used to be able to do it with his kick, although it was quite hard to land.Originally Posted by Grozni.
