Oh, I get why THEY do it. They like to make other people feel frustrated and weak, possibly because they feel frustrated and weak in their lives and it gets them feeling better about themselves (briefly, because the root cause of their own pain still exists, so they need to do this again and again...). Low self-confidence and high ego problems, maybe.

I just don't PERSONALLY see the point in trash-talking; it's not my thing, it's not something i need to do to feel good about myself, and if I did it would leave me feeling guilty for being such a jerk.

This iv'e always thought why they do it and I keep coming to the same conclusions (Big Ego's very low self esteem)

The problem does seem particularly common these days, yes.

Why spike the ball at all then? You do it to put that last nail in the coffin or an exclamation mark to drive a point home to the opposing team, to their fans. Last but not least to get your fans even more excited. It's about breaking the spirit of your opponents so the game gets easier for you. AKA Taunting! Cause you don't get points for doing it and it doesn't change a thing as far as the points go. You don't have to be in one's face to taunt them.

Of coures, they do smack talk because it's online and it's anonymous. Most would never do such a thing in real life, let alone hope to get away with it. Hence why they do it on the interwebs. Such tough characters.

Celebrating after something hard fought and won is one thing. If I am in a group that is same level, and my group gets owned, talk smack all you want. Hell, even do a tea bag emote. These idiots that cheer and taunt after they 4v1 me while I am in the middle of fighting a mob of NPCs must really have a sad existence in and out of the game. For the record, it may sound like it gets to me, but I literally accept there are morons in the world and go on about my merry way. When I first played online, I'd get pissed for sure, but I realized pretty quickly it's nothing to lose sleep over. The GE payouts however, that gets me quite angry. Not one complete set after hours upon hours of playing.
