Hello everyone,
First, let me get out of the way 2 things:
- I saw crashes on the Known Issues list. Maybe there's some sort of fix/compatibility issue so I don't need to wait for a patch for weeks, so I thought I'd post still
- my specs: 8700K stock, MSI Z370 Gaming Plus, 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz from Adata running on their XMP profile, GTX 1070 Ti from Gigabyte. Motherboard, videocard have latest BIOS. Windows 10 Pro FCU x64. Latest drivers everywhere. System is clean, maintained and without bloatware.
The issue:
- with 100% certainty the game will crash after 1-2 hours. Sent all the crash reports to Ubisoft I assume. Nothing in the Event Log. At one point, it even BSOD. When it crashes, the game will freeze for a very short while with audio continuing to play, then the game will close and Uplay will come with the upload crash report dialogue.
Other details:
- game looks great&runs great, with 70-80 fps average maxed out @1080p. Yes it spikes at times on the CPU and the GPU is almost constantly maxed, but they are cool and working normally. The GPU is not OC either.
- other games I have are crash free
- this PC has not BSOD other than in AC:O
- could play Destiny 2@4K maxed for 5 hrs and still no issues, same for Mass Effect:Andromeda or Deus Ex.
Is there any chance this game conflicts with MSI AB or overlays like Riva Tuner? It seems that playing without them it takes longer to crash, but that's just something I suspect
Anyone else with same issues? Thanks.
3 weeks ago I made this topic.
16 Dec I created a support ticket with Ubisoft.
Almost 1 month later, and the game STILL crashing, STILL on patch 1.10, thew support were unable to provide ANYTHING of use outside generic stuff (one told me to uninstall prime95... which is a standalone file that obviously never runs together with AC, it's just to test stability, dear lord).
Regardless - I've did about all the testing in the world that one could do.
- I've reinstalled Windows fresh
- updated BIOS (with Meltdown/Spectre, would have done anyway)
- installed all the things support required, including useless DirectX redist that has nothing to do with this DX11 title and all the Visual C++ redistributables from 2005 to 2017
- ran everything at stock/default on a clean install Windows - just to make sure nothing in this world, heaven forbid, interferes with AC
- uninstalled my dear Kaspersky Internet Security and using the dumb Microsoft Defender - again, who knows, KIS might interfere
- didn't install MSI Afterburner/Riva Tuner to monitor the GPU - might interfere!
- ran the game and Uplay both as admin and regularly - no changes (obviously)
- disabled Fullscreen Optimizations - who knows, Windows might try to overlay something on the game and could crash it... (don't worry, even with it enabled, it still crashes)
- ran numerous stability and torture tests on CPU, RAM and GPU, and all came fine with no errors even after a full day of running
I want to point out that there are entire days where the game is fully stable. It's just an illusion. Play again in 1-2 days, and the crash fiesta starts again.
Did I mention there are no events in the Event Viewer for ANYTHING when the crashes happen? That the display driver is fully stable? That other games are fine? Yeah.
Earlier today, 3 crashes in maybe one hour of play. It's pretty much unplayable.
This. Is. A. Joke.
And no, no amount of moderators or customer support telling you "we're sorry" will fix it.
What will fix it is PATCHING. Making the game stable. Do that, and you have my praise. Keep tarrying, and you can guarantee I will never buy a single Ubisoft title and pretty much spread the story on social media so everyone knows how your support works and how long it takes for one patch.
I've already offered to help support with all the additional info they require - just so they can expedite a fix. This is as cooperative as a customer can be.
The ball is in your court, Ubisoft. take responsibility and fix stuff, or at least acknowledge it and provide a timeline for when the crashing will be fixed.
Hi there!
I've moved your post to the ACO PC subsection, just so you know
I was able to find your support ticket. Thank you so much for troubleshooting along with us. We greatly appreciate your patience with us in figuring out potential issues. After the latest set of troubleshooting steps, could you please send another set of msinfo and dxdiag files? Once you've done that, I can pass your ticket on to the correct department to be investigated once again. I apologize for the delay and understand your frustration. Thanks!
Thanks for moving the topic, appreciate it. Didn't notice the PC category when I first created the account.Originally Posted by UbiSailorScout Go to original post
I will be sending another round of dxdiag and msinfo just now.
By the way, this is the THIRD round of these 2 files - it's not the first time I am asked to provide them again. I know what's the reasoning too - it's so you can pretty much make sure some idiot PC user doesn't run drivers from 2008 and doesn't have apparent hardware conflicts. Then there's the Event Viewer errors from msinfo, so you'd see if something, such as a driver, crashes.
Thing is, after writing 10 responses to your support and sending all this info, you would know by now that I'm not that type of PC user.
Yet, here come the third round of files. I hope they can help you. Again, if you require more info, any info, that would be helpful in expediting your fixes, here I am...
What do you mean?Originally Posted by Woognacious Go to original post
If you actually mean to disable hyperthreading or actually disabling 5 out of the 6 physical cores, I don't feel like doing that, especially in this game. Might work for an old game like WoW that runs on a main thread, but AC:O eats CPU cycles like crazy. Even on the 12 threads the 8700K has it's at best 30% utilization with Vsync or framecapping @60, and at worse if you let the game run at max fps it will go to even 100% CPU utilization in cities.
Extremely CPU hungry game. If you disable 5 cores the game will barely run, at best, so I don't feel like it would be a solution. hell, the forums are full of players with modern 4 core CPUs at 100% utilization, what would a poor, lonely, single core do
---------------
Worth noting that I could play for maybe 2+ hours today and there was no crashing whatsoever. Without making any changes to the PC, and yesterday the game crashed like mad. Considering the crashes don't even leave a appcrash entry in the Event Viewer, it suspiciously looks like some server problem to me. Obviously impossible to tell for sure, nobody but Ubisoft knows these details.
If we had a crash log, we could at least read and see why the crashes happen. A log would be really nice, wink wink.
They mean change the BIOS to be 1 core per CU, and in no way does that mean only 1 core. It means that where there are two cores per that share L2 and L3 cache, now one core gets it all the loot. The recognition here is that not all sharing is caring, and the solution of 1 core per CU is at the "core" of the solution; it has worked very nicely for many players of ACO. Benchmarks from AMD (for example) show little to no difference in a variety of decently coded games. Whether or not ACO is in that category . . . I guess successful 1 core per CU gamers still playing might answer that.
I don't have the FX 8350 or some other AMD FX (well I do, but not playing on it, great CPU, lasted me many years). I have the 8700k from Intel. It has no CUs, just cores and hyperthreading. Again, considering the game eats 100% of the 8700K 12 threads at times, it's really hard to see how disabling 6 would improve the situation.Originally Posted by ETSubmariner Go to original post
And here we are again, crashing just as before.
2 days of 100% stability. Applying patch today. Starting game, getting the quest, playing through a part of it - crash.
Well, this is about as much effort as I am willing to put into getting a game to run. I like being able to immerse in a game, not having to deal with random crashes and fearing I'll lose progress and having to restart the game again.
No DLC. Gonna just get the last quest done and this is the last time I am bothering. The market is oversaturated with titles regardless. Now, I know it doesn't matter, Ubisoft sold this one already and got the money, but hey.
At least now I know what I will be dealing with when Ubisoft releases their next "latest&greatest". Months of support delaying and being unable to help, and when a patch actually comes, it doesn't fix ****.
