When you activate an XP Booster in game, it gives you "X" hours depending on which one you have selected. My question is this Once you have selected a XP time, dose that run only while you’re in game or it just runs if you’re in game or not?

In regards to XP Boosters, once activated their timer does continue to tick down both in and out of game.

That's what I thought. Damn, you activate an 8 hour XP and you're tied to the game for a good portion of that time. That's a waste, but not for ubisoft.

I'd pay more for a game time only boost. The real time boosters are not a good idea.
