Dude... it's perfect!!!
It's ALRIGHT, but... there's probably a better way...
No... this is pretty bad, dude...
I've run over many ideas to fix the turtle meta. Today I offer you my simplest suggestion.
What if we made GB un-counterable... AFTER the opponent has gone X seconds without throwing an attack?
This way GB can still be countered if it's just thrown out at random, but if your opponent has been turtling for a while you would get a free guard-break. This would easily encourage people to attack more often, or risk getting caught by a GB and punished for turtling.
This could be a universal number, or be different for hero types (perhaps assassins and vanguards would have shorter times to encourage them to attack more frequently, and honor their namesake).
And someone just would just wip a light fom time to time or a heavy cancel or time the time that makes the confirmed gb activate and either attack at that moment or a few sec in advance or unlock or many other things. How about make parry rewards just a light chain starter and gb after parry unconfirmed... this doesnt brake anything but the e meta since there wont be any reason to just ..m defend if you dont get reward punishes for defending. Defending should be a state of fight when someone attacks. The rest should be attack.
yeah i never get way it's taken so long to fix.
the problem was that you get rewarded with free damage for defending. that why we ended up with staring contests with no one wanting to attack first.
no one was complaining about defence being strong in the sense of being able to defend yourself, it was that no one was attacking because it was too dangerous, all they need to do was up Chip Damage and either remove Free GB from parry, or Remove Free Heavy on GB. job done.
but almost a year later, and still have nothing, instead thier answer seems to be unbloackable spam and 50/50's
Today i encountered 2 players that did only *parry gb heavy* and *spamm one light attack* when it was 100 safe... this game ia tireaome and i cant play more than 2 gsmes until i leabe do to this problemOriginally Posted by Vordred Go to original post
Don't get me wrong, I actually like those ideas too. They just don't actually do anything about Defense Meta. They just make it so you don't get as many powerful attacks off a parry.Originally Posted by Gemoroda Go to original post
The core problem with Defense Meta is that it prevents the enemy from guaranteeing damage against you, but at the same time it gives you a source of guaranteed damage. So as long as the other person isn't playing defensively too, you can't lose, because you get gauranteed damage and he DOESN'T.
If I'm defending and I parry and only get a light attack off it, that's STILL BETTER THAN WHAT MY OPPONENT GETS, which as you should know if you were paying attention, is NOTHING. So even if you nerf what kind of damage I can do off a parry, the problem is that I get damage AT ALL that can't be avoided, and he does not.
So to summarize, the only way to break the defensive meta is to either prevent defense from providing guaranteed damage, or to give offensive play a means to provide guaranteed damage of equal value.
It's very simple math, people.
See, THIS guy gets it!Originally Posted by Vordred Go to original post
The only real way for chip damage to counterbalance the defense meta is if we give chip damage to light attacks, and I don't agree with that. I don't think light attacks should be chipping us. Increasing the chip damage on heavy attacks doesn't help, either, because those tend to be easily parried.Originally Posted by Vordred Go to original post
Yeah. Ubisoft has once commented on one of my defense-meta discussion threads and their response was "Look it's tough. We're thinking really hard about how to do this".Originally Posted by Vordred Go to original post
I really don't see the problem with the turtle meta. Every hero has their way of opening up their opponent, and you just have to be smart about it. This game is a spamfest, and if someone tries to kill you with only parries, you simply have to realize that it is not a spamfest. Just find your way of opening opponents up. I rarely have a problem beating turtles.
... I'd actually prefer unblockables not be parryable at all... you should only be able to dodge them.Originally Posted by Rye.Bread. Go to original post
