    Make Guard Break Obsolete!

    Remove Guard Break and give an opener to each hero that's unique to their playstyle! heroes that use the button for other things like kicks etc would still work but gb should be removed and replaced with openers for everyone.

    Right now it's just spam gb til it connects or parry gb to ledge or just run up and random gb hope it connects for free dmg.

    Gb shouldnt be removed because its a counter to dodgen. Else dodge would be op.
    On a second note, confirmed gb after parry must go away, the only reward for pary should be a light attack (chain starter) and parry should only be used to that or to revert a fight to neutral position (in case of gank)

    Guardbreak has always been an essential part of the game and is a counter to many things. As I take it, you've been ledged far too often in one day and a nerve popped. Understandable.

    GB counters turtling, dodge spam, or mindless attack spam in general. GB is also a rewarding hit when you feint a heavy into a GB and then proceed to land said heavy. Also, if you remove GB, how else will you land wallsplat? By considering to completely annihilate GB, you're also completely negating wallsplat for many characters, turning Centurion and Highlander and those with UB kicks/punches way deadlier than they should be, and barely counterable as well, because only they can do wallsplat.

    @Gemoroda a free GB after a parry is also fine. Landing a parry has a riskier timing than simply blocking an attack, and you should be rewarded for taking that risk, by being allowed to GB and land a heavy. Also, a GB after a parry isn't always guaranteed, not against long-range characters, like Nobushi and Lawbringer. Far often you'll parry their attacks but you'll be out of range to GB.

    The problem isn't GB. The problem is, ledges and environmental hazards are too abundant almost everywhere, and one mistake can cost you a match. I've been saying on these forums to reduce the amount of ledges and environmental hazards when it comes to duels for instance (like changing duel locations to more closed areas), and completely removing them from ranked duel tournaments, which should be based purely on combat skill, not free kills via ledging.

    There's also another issue: after the free weekend and the 60% sale, a lot more newbies entered the game, and these people care more about winning a match than relying on combat skill. Hence the GB into ledging spam.

    No the defensive meta is a issue I could just parry gb heavy and get guaranteed damage till they die at least a light you can start a combo having a free gb heavy is a bit much reinse repeat 4 times you win. Parry isn't a risk unless your a assassin even then most heavy are a free parry

    The replacement for GB would be each hero's special opener/counter. That would replace the need for gb entirely as the opener/counter could wallsplat after a parry etc. Parry should ONLY light to start a combo as devils stated. Never should a GB be allowed for being defensive since it's "to open defense".

    At least punish GB more if countered!!! push back more or reduce more stam because spamming it is just annoying as hell and people do it just for FREE hits...

    There's also the issue of OOS GB that can still do something like the raider can still run you while OOS...... How does he have the stam to run you around?!?

    Last I checked, you can spam GB like 4 times till you're out of stamina... I'm not sure. But I think it's exactly 4 times. Also it's very punishable if it misses. It guarantees a light, a heavy, or a GB. I've also mentioned above, lots of new people hopped on For Honor after the free weekend and the 60% sale. I've been seeing a lot more newbies and the Brawl activity went up by a large bump. From low activity to high activity this week. Most of them only care about wins, and they'd rather have easy wins.

    Remember, making GB more punishable if countered also applies to you. Pushing back more will almost certainly lead to even more ledge spam. And further stamina drain per GB will lead to further problems and will encourage further turtling because stamina is the most important thing in this game, and now GB is a hindrance because one GB will eat half your stamina bar and you won't be able to attack properly, etc.

    I agree. This shouldn't happen.
    I understand the punishing aspect of the GB. Thank you for the discussion.

    It counters turtling because blocking and full-blocking and falling for feinted heavies won't stop a GB to open up a turtle.

    It counters dodge spam only if the dodge itself doesn't have extra hyperarmor on it.

    It can counter mindless attack spam if you block (just impact) the first and immediately GB during the startup animation of the next. The GB will get through. And Highlander can't spam his hyperamor attacks, he'll run out of stamina too fast. I've met such people. It's easier against assassins because they strike fast and your chances of landing a just impact block are better.
