I was looking forward to getting a couple of games for Christmas, but my choice of AAA is being limited these days. I am not a fan of pay to win mechanics that has been the making mobile games work for people that play mobile games for years. Not my cup of tea.
The analytics and psychology discussions can be left for another time, I just find the feeling of playing a game that is essentially got pay walls and mechanics for its implementation very uncomfortable.
So for this reason I have not bought a copy of this game.
There are many people in the same boat.
Hopefully not a sign of things to come

Well, you're limiting yourself for nothing imho. & I disagree that this is any 'silent' majority... I've seen plenty of what I call activists ranting & whining about MT's.
I could see your point if the MT solicitation were intrusive on us & broke immersion of the game, but Ubi hasn't done that at all. & why is it so wrong to allow people who do have some extra money to spend, to buy extra things they want?? Why shut them out?
Might as well say, "well, since I can't have that jewlery or fancy car, why should I be ok with others having it?". Same principle.
And also, there's no Multi-Player in this game - so who cares if you gain some personal achievements with some cash?
& do you attack Online game companies for offering their credit cards to buy up in them? My sister & her young daughter play Howrse - pure competition in the world of Horses to build & run an Equine Center & micro manage all your stuff.
you can buy Rare Legendary horses & get ahead in the game where others who don't pay real cash, don't move up as much or as fast..... That's how games go now.
Companies need to make $$ and there's no reason not to be able to buy extras in video games - esp. when it costs so much to create them.
Sorry, I think this is ludicrous - it goes too far into anti-business territory for my taste.
Assassin's Creed Origins is a single player game, that can even be played in offline mode if you like. Game has no PAY TO WIN mechanics nor any kind of pay walls. If you buy just the standard version of the game you get absolutely everything to date, like me who bought Gold version except those 2 extra missions which both can be completed in few minutes. Never mind season pack, 2018 is far away. But to play the core game till the end would net you roughly 40~80 playing hours, or even more, depending of your playstyle, and for AAA game these days i think it's pretty awesome. So before you start brending games without actually read about them, please, inform yourself first.
Hey dobbersdob,
If you're interested, you could add your input to our Feedback Thread.
And, FWIW, the items available as micro transactions seem to be mostly cosmetic as far as I can tell. I've got some really awesome gear all around, and haven't spent a single real world dollar on anything extra.
Thanks!
Ya, to Ox's point, I do play offline - - at all times. With crappy Wifi, I can't play any MP & don't want auto updates/patches popping up on me that take about 2-3 days to download....
I see NOTHING these MT's do that harm anyone in any way. & Ubi's very respectful in not shoving it down your throat in the game.
This Activism is just completely unnecessary. & since I want these companies to be able to afford to keep cranking out the great games I play (AC, Far Cry,), I WANT them to make good money & keep enough staff to do it.
I just don't get gamers today. It's almost laughable if it weren't sad.
Appreciate feedback people, everyone has there own opinion, we all get a vote I guess!
Hope you enjoy the game!
Won't be the silent majority when in Rome, but its good to talk.
I have been playing games since the ZX Spectrum and just don't like having the nickel and dime in AAA games, I have seen a shift take place over number of cycles.
I see the influence unsettling more games, but if people feel they get a better experience with in game payments then I will continue to be the silent minority :P
Enjoy your adventure, and let you feet do the talking.

I'm definitely on the fence on this one.
On the one hand the store items are mainly cosmetic and generic. I've bought a couple of the outfits and a shield and spear. Nothing to write home about. I think it's perfectly okay, as long as it's done tastefully. I like that there is a clear distinction between store items and season pass / club outfits. It will be a different story the first time I'm asked to pay extra for Altair's robes or swords etc.
The other side of that is should I really be buying items for a game that cost $140 not 30 days ago?
Season passes and DLC, platform and retailer exclusives are all ways developers make additional profit, so they aren't going anywhere for now.
These things are cyclical though. As interest in gaming declines and popularity moves to other media the industry will reorganize. They will begin to evaluate and appreciate the impact such decisions have on their customers.
Like a musical group playing in a small pub in front of 25 people. Everyone knows that no matter how big and crazy it gets, in 25 years it'll be the same people in the same room.
