Had this thought actually since the release of GRW earlier this year.....
What if we had a friendly fire option in GRW / Co-Op? I figure it could be easy enough to implement, no?
Obviously, I'm thinking it can make for a more tense co-op experience but I'm also thinking about what folks could do with it beyond that. FF would give players the ability to create their own PvP scenarios. ....competing for objectives, hunts, escape & evade (e.g. 3v1) , challenges, etc. Considering the creativity of the community and the vastness of the GRW world, I'm sure folks could think of other scenarios they could create.
It's just a spitball idea that I originally had as a stopgap answer to people who were waiting for PvP but I think it might still be a cool idea given the ability of being able to utilize the entire GRW world. .....and the fact that (as far as I can tell), it should be relatively easy to implement as an option.
Yeah, there is a limitation of only 4 players but I could still see some fun in it for what I believe would be an easy enough update. Anyhow, thoughts? The option could be an individual one where if it isn't selected, you will not sustain damage from friendly fire.
That's such a great idea (hopefully as an option). I think it's brilliant because of the simplicity of it. It would be interesting too if the "PvP" players are killed by Unidad or cartel because they exist in the world, and whoever remains continues the "PvP" in the campaign world. You could also make rules to work together to beat Unidad and cartel then go back to killing each other. As a coop PvE player I think that would add a level of interest and challenge to game play, even without doing the PvP aspect of it.
I think I've had similar experiences, jsocfrog. When my co-op buds go afk, I tend to spend the time figuring out the most complex way to kill their characters using whatever's at hand.Originally Posted by jsocfrog Go to original post
It would be interesting to see if players could make an informal PvP out of it, but on the other hand "friendly fire" behavior doesn't really make sense in the context of the main campaign.
As Socom said, I am talking about FF as an "option". ......that's why I intentionally placed the word in bold twice in my post.
The idea is that it would be an individual option (as I mentioned in the original post) that can be enabled or disabled by you, the user (no one else). The same way the HUD options work. Simply leaving the option off in your own menu would render the fear of "idiotic team killers" a moot point.
For those that want to use it, I envision it as a feature that could be shared with friends or trusted randoms that are seeking the same gameplay. It could add more tension to the gameplay for those who like to play more tactically, with no (or limited) HUDs, etc. .....I see it as an option only for live members only and not AI teammates for obvious reasons.
I don't see it being billed as a "PvP" option but people could still use it as such. .....for those who play with online friends or others who might like to join in your own creative scenarios. I could see people sharing these experiences with the rest of the community and maybe giving other ideas as well on things they may want to try.
This is something that I believe would be a simple change that could result in some interesting experiences. .....and maybe even regain some replayability from GRW.
I like this idea as long as it's on the players side like you suggested Kean_1Originally Posted by Kean_1 Go to original post
So if I don't enable friendly fire my teammate can't just run up to me and spray me.
Sounds neat and like somethimg i'd never enable but for the hardcore, roleplaying, or milsim players this could be a cool addition
just look at R6siege, even in the ranked games, the number of head sweeps is insane!Originally Posted by UbiInsulin Go to original post
I'm aware that you said it to be toggle-able in the Option. But once the feature is implemented and acknowledged by public, hostile mentality people's first reaction when they enter someone's lobby would be to kill others first. If some people have the Friendly Fire is activated, then those people will have their own shooting gallery, then respawn, and repeat.
This will divert the attention and the point of people entering PvE. Sooner or later the so-called PvP people will dominate the PvE campaign, kick everyone who don't have Friendly Fire on, and tell anyone who don't like it to GTFO.
Yes, maybe at the end of the day, you can say the good old "Play with friends" suggestion to counter the trouble. But when that happens, that means the PvE matchmaking already get killed on purpose. This is why I think anything, and I mean anything that touches like PvP, should strictly stays in PvP.
